Strange Job Interview Questions

...So I leave my rants about films I've worked on to IRL interaction with friends.  ...Usually with booze present and while I lie across my couch, complaining with exhaustion, while someone pats my head.

I agree that IRL in a private setting with friends you trust with your opinions is the safest way to express your opinions without fear of any lifestyle or occupational repercussions.

Also what I quoted sounded like a scene in a movie. I'm day dreaming hard because it's 1AM & just got home from work so I imagined your story as I read it. Your description described the scene quite well.

I once got asked by some guy if my long hair was real or extensions or something by some 70ish year old guy.

Now, I don't mean to stereotype anyone, but I don't seem like...that type. The extent I care about my appearance is looking clean.

Kinda struck me as odd - why the hell would I use extensions and why would he care?

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

A little bit creepy but at the same time perhaps he was or is a hair dresser or worked/works in some type of hair modeling business. Alternatively there's the creepy possibly depending on your gender (female/male/neutral/attack helicopter/other...) and his gender preference that he might of liked your physical appearance.

it was more like he couldn't possibly understand how it was so long on a male. It'd probably been 5 or 6 years since I'd cut it at that point, so it was pretty long. It's not in style really for men to have even moderately long hair these days, so I kinda get it, I'm an outlier. But it's like dude, I'm sure you've seen this before. Not to mention, aside from keeping it clean and trying to keep it smooth, I do nothing with it. Tons of split ends too. I'd understand if it looked like suspiciously nice. No one get extensions and is like "yah, make me look like a homeless except I own shampoo"

Ah, I see where you're coming from. In today's society long hair on a man is typically associated with being an outcast. Someone who behaves outside the social norm. Still, walking up and asking if they're extensions and considering his age range. That is weird especially if he doesn't explain why he asked that's the least he could have done to make it less creepy.

Its not so strange now, but when I'm interviewing people for my company.....I ask for their facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, etc.

My reason for this is to make sure they won't damage relations with clientele.  I've actually had to turn down good applicants due to behavior I can't have associated with my company. And that is why I don't use social media at all.

Many people would view that as a breach of personal privacy, i know companies do checks on social media but if you know their name you can find them on facebook anyway

Just to mention thats not legal in all states. Michigan and 16 other states have laws on the books prohibiting this practice. I only know this because I working on a project for a college coarse and both of my articles deal with social media use in employment decisions. Its also a violation of the Employment Labor Relations Act. to fire people based on social media posts. This has also be upheld in Federal Court in 2015.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.
