whats the best 1080ti to go with if planning water cooling down the road?

XxRubyxX

Well title says it all, i am looking to upgrade my current gpu and not sure which brand is the best to go with knowing that i can go to custom loop down the road i was however looking at this and not sure if ek waterblocks supports this card. Can someone inform me?

Why not just get the FE card? there's plenty of waterblocks for it.

the kraken g10 and g12 for instance fit any pcb based on the reference design.. see if you can find a photo of the pcb and compare it. i think most 1080 tis are based on reference..

Have you tried to perform a sudden temporary interrupt of the electricity flow to your computational device followed by a re-initialization procedure of the central processing unit and associated components?

Why would he need that if he's going for a custom loop?

I got myself an evga card because they allow you to replace the cooler for a waterblock without losing the warranty.

it was just to point out that they are based on reference pcb designs, and any 1080ti confirmed to fit with those should work fine with any custom setup based on the same reference design. though i could have been clearer.

Oh ok, I understand but the two cards he mentioned are not reference design. EK does support both cards but I think it's a waste to get such expensive cards and then replace them with waterblocks.

From my understanding the rog poseidon is garbage both ways, performs sub par as air cooled and same story in a custom loop. evga is pretty cool about watercooling, but if you have to send the card in I believe you still have to disassemble and reassemble with the cooler the card came with.

EVGA will let you maintain the warranty with custom cooling as long as you throw the original cooler back on for RMA purposes.

Don't think ASUS does. Plus the "waterblock" on the ASUS card just isn't as good as a proper waterblock.

if you are planning on custom water cooling down the road you are better off saving some cash by getting the founders edition, and replacing the top bit off with a waterblock.

doesn't make sense to get a poseidon which retails at 1500$ here just to pull off the air component if u ask me. it was meant to be more of a hybrid solution for those who dont wish to pull out stuff but use it as it is and have that water functionality later on if needed.

evga has good international warranty so i would probably bank on that if you really Had to get one of those two... but again point above ^

reason of me was thinking of the hybrid being i might not be able to afford going custom loop at first after the gpu upgrade, and i personally not a fan of air cooling after i got a evga aio cooling card. So i though at the end sure id be paying a little more but i know ill have some form of liquid cooling till i can afford a 800 plus dollar custom loop.

If you are going to put a waterblock on it i would go with EVGA founders edition, looks great with a block on it (single slot) and no reason to pay premium for a cooler you are going to remove

i agree but at the same time im not a fan of my gpu raising above 55c, regardless it worries me at that point and i was thinking of the FTW for the higher clock speed and such in the mean time. I dont so much mind paying a little extra for the cooler if it means it keep the gpu at the temp i want even if i dont go for the loop months down the road.

I think the FTW3 is a better card, but why would you spend extra money on the EVGA hybrid card if you're just going to install a waterblock and add a custom loop? Get the normal FTW3 and save the $50 to put toward your custom loop equipment.

Has anyone looked for a FE 1080ti lately?  On Newegg they are out of stock and priced really high.  On Amazon you might get an EVGA for 740.00 or so.  For that you might as well get an EVGA SC Black or something which I think would be better until you put it on water.  The only thing with that is finding a full cover water block.  EK has general block but doesn't have any card specific blocks until the FTW3.

I would also go with an EVGA because of the warranty... I researched this and it appears they have the best warranty when you plan to remove the stock fan (you just have to keep it if you do need to RMA).

I would LOVE to get just a FE card since I plan to do the same thing, I just can't find one... and then finding a full cover water block for the SC or even SC2 has been a challenge (again, only really looked at EK but it says their blocks aren't compatible until the FTW3-but it was a quick search and I may have missed something-hope I did!).
