i think linus forgot to mention another reason in the the uptick of water coolers is a lot of people seem to be using them on the 7700ks as well due to them running quite hot due to its thermal issues

I believe that most of the viewers are more "Gaming" oriented to Intel, rather than building multi-thread "Workstation" builds, for different purposes. I think here on the Balkans, the Ryzen 1600x/1700 are in the lead, mixed together with MSI B350 Tomahawk motherboard, paired with the RX480/580 or GTX1060 or if they go to higher level, GTX1070. The rest is mostly the same.

When Ryzen first came out, you couldn't buy them on Amazon cheaply and Linus didn't have ref links (I think) for the few sellers of the chips on Amazon... It's like catching the tailwind and claiming it's the real deal. You might see an increase of people buying mobos for those chips, now that they have more money or similar

Ryzen MOBO stock was super low for the first month or so, lots of people bought Ryzen chips but had to wait on MOBO supply. this would explain the higher percentage of MOBO's over CPU's.

I'm still shocked how many people buy the 7700K.

 

Most people I know in person when building a new system tend to just buy a low tier i5 quad core, as they're typically plenty enough and well priced. Now of course that would be a Ryzen 5.

For the first time ever I was actually tempted enough by the sponsor spot at the start of the video to "check out the link in the video description".  However I was disappointed to find that it isn't linked there at all.  Instead of a link to the Feenix keyboard is a link to the (unavailable) Feenix mouse.

 

I won't be following this post to check for some correction and a properly affiliated link, I'm too lazy for that.  Though I did revive this account that's been inactive 3-years to voice my disappointment, so I guess you still win.

Or possibly something different... People were buying CPUs as fast as they could before Linus had ref links and then Linus was able to get out ref links in time to catch a wave of mobo purchases. Just a theory.. we don't have any raw data to look at and probably wont be getting any
