6600k 1070 SLI?

Could an i5 6600k at 4.5GHz handle a 1070 SLI?
 

I may trade something in for a 1070.

Yeah, it can as long as you stayed in 1080p

"Make it future proof for some years at least, don't buy "only slightly better" stuff that gets outdated 1 year, that's throwing money away" @pipoawas

 

-Frequencies DON'T represent everything and in many cases that is true (referring to Individual CPU Clocks).

thats when there will be more bottlenecking, higher resolution = more load on the GPUs and the same on the CPU.

 

i would not do this, i would not do an SLI setup on an I5

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Not advisable, SLI is i7 territory.

id argue if you have a i5 and a 1070 anouther 1070 would be a better improvement to performance in games than a i7 would be and they cost about the same.

you can, but there would be quite a lot of bottlenecking

For high refresh rate, get an i7 7700K, and hope it goes to 5GHz+, as that helps get higher FPS.

You get lower frames than you would if you paired the 1070s with a 7700k, for instance.  Which is to be expected

But what if you are not gaming? I guess i7 would not make a difference except the threads in streaming

why would you SLI and not game? If its for editing, I would still use the i7

Yes there will be a bottleneck, but you will still see a big improvement in frame rates. The better answer overall would be to sell the 1070 throw in the $400 and grab a 1080ti = yes it will still bottleneck slightly but you wont have the SLI draw backs of extra power usage and SLI support in games and full SLI utilisation - SLI is good I'm a supporter of it, but a single powerful card is still a better solution

I do not mean SLI and not gaming, but not gaming and then get an i7 instead of SLI
