Are the ads in the forum new?

yathis

I never noticed it b4.

Its 'in your face' and you can not really ignore it. Must be good profit in that.

I can't tell. I always use adblock on LTT. Never bothered disabling it because I thought it was a ad-free site

Pretty sure there's only 1 ad spot for this website. But anyways, adblock can be added to your browser pretty easily.

if i recall, the forum used to have more than that one ad at some point in history :/

also, if you feel annoyed by that ad, go look up how much it costs to run a forum for a potential several thousand active users, then realise that it is offered to you for free, and that one ad suddenly becomes a very neglible part of your forum experience, not to mention the honestly stunning effort of the LMG crew to keep it related to what we're here for.

EDIT: also, include costs for cloudflare.

You are missing the bigger picture my 'friend'

Think enviromental eco system.

You seem to be watching the minnows and not the whales!

The whales in the end..... end up with the 'minnows' in their system so to speak, even if the cat fish eat them first, and the seal eats the cat fish, the dolphin eats the seal. Its a chain, hence eco system.

What's the bigger picture? It is one ad. Guess what keeps this forum running and continuing to develop? The pocket of ltt, that one ad isn't enough to support this website, but the reason it is there is because it helps.

The forums is not where the money comes from, it's the youtube videos, amazon links, and floatplane club.

It has nothing to do about one ad space, not at all.

Hint: What else does Linus do?

i'm not missing the bigger picture, i've debated this topic against some linux freedom of speech everything must be free and opensource guy one or two years ago, i'm at this point just not bothering to dive into it against someone who is buggered up about one ad, and in the process cant find the quote button.

linus is quite open about the forum being a money sink, but the forum is a prerequisite for other things that do result in cashflow like people directly supporting the content creators they like, and keeping the community involved as a whole.

How many viewers does Linus get. How many are repeated viewers.

How else to put it, let me think about it while multi-tasking.

So you complained about an ad space, but now it's not about the ad space. You're not making too much sense imo. What does linus do? Well he's the owner of ltt, makes youtube videos, and supports a family.
