I7 6700k damaged while delliding

Hello everyone.

When i was trying to dellid my cpu with a knife, i managed to damage te pcb. Does anyone know if it will still work.

Probably will not work anymore but always try first :)

im pretty sure you litteraly scraped off some esential traces but dont scrap it before you try it

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

I wouldn't risk it... Many traces are obviously cut off...

Did you try to get the green part off? Because I don't see a reason why the top edge should be damaged too

I already bought the H115i Aio from Corsair this month. And this cpu was not new when i bought it but second hand for 300€ or about 250$ without warranty.

I mean, I'm sorry for your loss but doing such procedure by yourself with a kitchen knife was probably not a smart decision regardless the cost you had with it, even if you couldn't OC it very high due to thermals the 6700k is still one of the best processors around.

 

I do hope your next CPU has a better fate xD

A knife of any description is far to thick for the purpose. 

 

There's a reason why guides say a razor blade if you're going down that route or the delid tool. 

 

reseal it and send it into Intel. They'll never know...;)

There was no warranty. My next cpu is going to be the i7 7700k, does anyone know if my Z170 motherboard will boot with that CPU or do i have to send it to service so that they can update my BIOS to the latest version.

And ps: i destroyed the cpu 1 day before i received this in the mail, ceause i didn't have the patience to wait as i didn't know it will arrive the next day.

I bought it used. So i cant send it back :D was using a razor blade, but it was still to thick
