Apple R&D spend breaks $10B barrier in 2016

blaze756

Apple spend a record $10 Billion dollars on research and development this year! Just think about that, that's just under a quarter of their total income for this year they posted a US$45.687 billion net income this year. and about 2 thrids of Alphabet's income for last year US$16.34 billion! Apple didn't actually say where all that money went.

Quote

Apple spent nearly $2.6 billion on research and development operations during the fourth fiscal quarter of 2016, bringing the company's yearly total to more than $10 billion for the first time ever, regulatory filings show.

Quote

Apple failed to mention where, exactly, the R&D money was applied, though rumors throughout 2016 pointed to explosive growth of an automotive initiative dubbed "Project Titan."

Off the top of my head most of this is probably going into materials development, ceramics, new types of batteries, OLED technologies, processor architecture, partnerships with foundries to help offset the new node costs, new camera technologies, and the like. I doubt they're actually investing significantly in their car project.

We likely won't see the results of this for a while, R&D isn't an instant "throw money->???->profit!" process despite what jokers have to say :P

Their new building will probably be able to take off by this point in order to reach new galaxies and expand their Apple domain across the universal! R&D definitely well spent ???
