It is almost a single 4K ultra 60fps card however so...STILL TOO EXPENSIVE!

It's encouraging to see we are finally getting to one card 4K setups, albeit not for the financially challenged yet.

 

To be honest even if I had the money I'd be very reluctant to buy one, or two, of these, but it cool that it exists.

Judging by the price of the 1080, the 1080ti is unlikely to be a bargain.

That Quadro has 3840 CUDA cores. The 1080 has 2560, the 1070 has 1920. If make a 1080 Ti with that many CUDA cores they can market it as the ultimate 4k card, the 1080 for 1440p gaming, and the 1070 for high frame rate 1080p. I will be waiting for my check in the mail, Nvidia.

Almost is the key word. Maybe with a new architecture and HBM2 we can achieve 4K single card

I just want to bring this to attention. I've posted this in YouTube, and I understand that comments fill up so fast and that you may not have the chance to read it and create your own opinion on this subject. So here it is, my opinions and my observations.

I personally dislike your naming convention you guys have adopted for the Nvidia Titan X. I know the difference between the Maxwell Titan X and the Nvidia Titan X. If any of you are still confused between one card and the other, then you need to understand the difference, just as the company understands that difference. And I'm still going by the tradition of going for a single, more powerful card, than going for a pair of lower-tiered cards. Good luck to those having compatibility issues with SLI on two 1080's. And two 1080's priced at USD $619.99 will run you USD $1,239.98, so no, I'll spend the extra amount to get a single, more powerful card.

 

I also do 3D rendering in Nvidia Iray, so I have justification for this card, as I can't afford the USD $5,000 Quadro P6000 GPU, which is more ideally suited for this kind of workload. I am also a PC enthusiast, and I like this kind of stuff.

 

To say that you need to upgrade your GPU every yeear or so, is a lie IMO that people (especially IT professionals from my experience) tout. I will only upgrade my GPU when I can no longer run the games I want to play at my desired fidelity (everyone has different tastes). And I knew I wouldn't be able to get the new GTX 1060 because it went out of stock so fast that it's not even funny whatsoever. So for now, my GTX 960 4GB will tide me over into the December holidays, when my Fall semester in college is over.

To recap this, the first is comparing Nvidia's naming convention to that of car companies and Apple. Second is my dislike of LTT's usage of the "Titan XP" naming convention and the impression of misunderstanding you present to the audience, which is something I dislike.

 

The third is how people should be handling GPU upgrades by going for a single, more powerful GPU rather than two lower-tiered cards because of better compatibility with games and better bang for the buck. I don't understand why people would go for two lower-tiered GPUs rather than a single card that's already more powerful. Sure you may lose a bit of performance, but from my understanding so far, that impact is marginal at best.

 

The rest is just my opinion, something that may be off-topic from the subject at hand.

 

Also it has been brought to my attention that the review was too short, thanks to @NavyCuda and @pk-man for the heads-up. I agree with him, which is why I am now beginning to like OC3D's reviews more because Tom Logan goes over them very in-depth in exchange for much longer videos, which I say is a fair-enough exchange. Why don't you guys do that? I believe many of us would appreciate the detailed, in-depth info because it makes us feel more informed about said product.

so another overview video disguised as a "review"??  Come on guys, I'm starting to see a disturbing trend where your reviews is basically more like a overview.  No thermal comparisons? No overclocking benchmarks?? No noise tests??  This video doesn't qualify as a review and I wish you guys would stop calling that. 

 

I know Linus prefers to have his videos under 10min for whatever reasons but I would rather see you guys make in-depth content and give detailed analysis instead of short videos where you don't have any time to say anything meaningful.

 

oh FYI, you really shouldn't call it XP in the title. Yes, Nvidia deserves every bit of criticism for its confusing namesake and I dont' defend them one bit, but "titan xp" is an unofficial name you guys created and having it in the video title may confuse viewers even more.

I think the PR people got over whelmed with the naming part. For a "Deep Learning" card the Tesla product line does it better unless you are also in a group pool of people using it to construct the mind of a gamer. That would be cool but also creepy.

Seeing the main target who can afford it can also afford a Tesla K40 it seems Luke forgot to mention that. 1 TITAN X (Pascal) has 2x the cores of a Tesla K40 but the same amount of VRAM. So a compute test would be nice to see.

 

Rendering the video the results are posted in would be a nice first benchmark, the estimating the weather for the next week for the second, third would be to use big data to data mine something you can keep static but as big data is always growing and changing the third one will have to run several times.

 

Real life like compute benchmarks take more time as they are usually set up then the people go away for a few hours before checking if it is done yet. GPGPU usage in programs is amazing but it is under utilized because everything was written for x86 first. The savings if any to recode from x86 to CUDA or OpenCL depending on the program most times is not worth it so it is a consumer business who pays for it. The savings is not always there either.

 

For a "Deep learning" benchmark look at the flux in the read outs of EKGs starting with a healthy person male then healthy person female then request random data from a heart device organization. Run the EKGs of their willing volunteers against the healthy ones then repeat for 3 months. That will get a Result to them and data for you to use for the card. "Deep learning" is alot more involved than that but it would make a good comparison. Just keep the data and reuse it for the future tests for "Deep Learning". Depending on how the law there is written you might have to use different data for each test of the card for "Deep learning" compute.

I'd very much like to see some synthetic CUDA/OpenCL benchmarks in such "reviews". C'mon guys, it's not that hard, and Titans are mostly interesting due to compute capabilities (although I occasionally game on my old original Titan -- when there are no better uses for it that is). Something like LINPACK benchmark might be a start, at the very least, I believe there are both CUDA- and OpenCL-optimized versions in the wild.

 

And if you could get your hands on some Teslas that would be nice too, although as far as I can tell, not very likely.
