Futuremark introduces Stress Test to their popular 3DMark suite

Now we've made it easier than ever to check the stability of your PC by adding a dedicated stress testing feature to 3DMark.

 

The aim of stress testing is to place a high load on your system for an extended period of time to expose any problems with stability and reliability. It can also help identify faulty hardware or the need for better cooling. 

 

The best time to run a 3DMark Stress Test is after buying or building a new PC, upgrading your graphics card, or overclocking your GPU. If your GPU crashes or produces visual artifacts during the test, it may indicate a reliability or stability problem. If it overheats and shuts down, you may need more cooling in your computer. 

 

3DMark now includes four levels of stress testing based on the Sky Diver, Fire Strike, Fire Strike Extreme, and Fire Strike Ultra benchmarks.

 

Each 3DMark Stress Test runs in a loop without pausing for loading screens or other breaks. In 3DMark Advanced Edition, the test loops 20 times and runs for around 10 minutes, which is usually enough to uncover any stability or cooling issues. With 3DMark Professional Edition, you can set any number of loops from 2 to 5,000.

good news, it was about time Futuremark adds this feature to 3DMark

back in 2014, stress testing my video card was the reason I bought 3DMark - found it at a substantial discount, ~10EU if I recall

 

to have a dedicated tool for this purpose only is awesome

 

the not so awesome part, Futuremark is restricting this new addition to Advanced and Professional editions only 

• Advanced Edition will run the test loops 20 times, around 10 minutes total
• Professional Edition will allow you to set the number of loops between 2 and 5000

Excellent! Now I can run this as well as Unigine when testing my overclocks.

 

Now they just need to finally come out with TimeSpy (DX12 benchmark supposed to come out at the start of the year), and a Vulkan benchmark.

Huh... to think I could have finally been the first to post this....

I was starting my first attempt at OCing this last weekend and was running some benchmarks to get started, and I saw this in the menu for Futuremark. I didn't look into it more because I thought it had always been there and that I just never noticed it before.

Yeah, I was doing benchmarks Monday afternoon.

(Ok, Monday isn't part of the weekend, but I started the process of overclocking and whatnot on Sunday....)

I don't find it to be news worthy. Like Crucial MX300 reviews are out and Intel sets to debut Optane SSD code name Mansion Beach along side Kaby Lake.

IMO, this feature should not be used as a source to find out if your system is stable or not.

This is good to see. Firestrike has shown most of my overclocks to be unsuccessful much faster than Heaven and has the most relevant benchmarks to boot.

Advanced edition not pro. Pro is over $600. No way they will sell for $5 bucks.

One pro feature is export to Excel.
