Most of the time it's fine, but some games like shadow or mordor, dying lgith really likes VRAM. Games in a future will use more and more too.

Even Witcher 3 uses about 1.9 GB of VRAM max.

List the games you plan on playing, then we can say yes or no. 

Most of the time, games will work with the vRAM they are given and send the least important data to the system memory.

Depends on the game, usually it's enough. Though frankly at this point if a card has 2gb of vram on it it probably can't handle the games that use more at max settings anyway.

Probably. It's moot though as there are no cards that have 2GB that are powerful enough generally speaking, you'd be talking about SLI or Crossfire which doesn't make sense on this tier.

R9 380 begs to differ.

At 1080p, 2 GB is generally still enough. Some games out there will fill as much memory as you have to give them, in which case you'll see monitoring utilities report upwards of 4 GB "in use." That doesn't mean the game needs it for performance reasons, though.

if the GPU youre getting has only 2GB of vram then you probably wont be playing crysis at ultra, since the GPU cant handle it

if the GPU can handle a less intensive game, then yes 2GB vram will be enough

Probably high, my MSI GeForce GTX 660 2GB used to run perfectly fine on Far Cry 3 and 4 and the same with MechWarrior Online.

well  if 3 or 4gb is much expensive, be happy with med-high settings and buy 2gb.

Would recommend going 3GB or more, to be honest.

Depends on the game. Generally the amount of VRAM found on cards is suitable to their horsepower... like there are some games at 1080P where 2GB isn't enough to run the game with high quality textures, but generally cards that come in 2GB flavours, such as R9 380, aren't going to be playing those games at high/ultra settings anyways.

 

I think 2GB is fine for 1080P, but if you want to run with really high quality textures in GTA V or stuff like that, then you might want a 3-4GB card

An older 6 series 2gb card would be able to run Crysis 3 at 50-60 fps near high quality (not steady). You will be fine

Modded Skyrim or GTA V, no way.

But for most games, it should be enough.

Working on GTA V at full detail if you don't use AA , that's what kills the performances on 2Gb card.
