Cooling a AMD FX-9590

thunderfire123

Either custom watercooling (ideal situation), or something like a H100.

The first step to insanity is believing in your sanity.

What would I need to cool a AMD FX 9590?

Please don't buy a 9590.

would any watercooling work?

I'd say anything above dual 120.

Word, Powerpoint, Excel. Basically Microsoft office

Then either i3 4160, i5 4440 or i5 4690 depending on how much you are willing to spend. I certainly wouldn't get anything more expensive than the i5.

The i3 will match the FX 9590 when gaming, and the others will do much better than either, though all of these are absolutely fine for office productivity.

In fact, depending on how light "light gaming" is you could even go as low as Pentium G3258. It will struggle with hardcore games like GTA V and BF4, but otherwise very good for such light workloads.

Light gaming, work, Web browsing,

core i3 4160, no need to spend so much on a useless cpu

Are you going to be overclocking? If not, I would stick to an H81 motherboard and get the 4690 (without the K)

I would also get Windows 7 instead of 8.1 -- they both come with a free upgrade to Windows 10 in a month's time.

Edit: oh it's July now, isn't it? In about two weeks, then lol

Objectively, not really. I enjoy it and like to get the most out of my hardware, but is it going to make the slightest bit of difference when you're using MS Word or PowerPoint? No, not really.

Didn't even look at the GPU, was distracted by the CPU :P

Does this build even need a discrete GPU? @thunderfire123 when you say "light gaming" can you give some examples of what you mean?

I wouldn't. I doubt it will be as cheap as Windows 7 and Windows 7 comes with a free upgrade anyway.
