Sticking a cooler rated for 500W on a card that uses 275W is not an "engineering breakthrough"

It keeps the form factor small. They had to do that, or put a leaf blower like the r9 290x

Incoming 970, 980, and 980 Ti price drops.

 

I still don't see why the 970 would price drop. But a $550 Fury could put crazy pressure on the 980.

I don't think base Fury will do it, it's a 35xx core gpu too

No, they have nothing rumoured until pascal. They only just released the 980ti. There is nothing that they could release.
