Build -Off Contest 59: AMD FX "The Final Fantasy"

dragoon20005
Go to solution Solved by NumLock21,

When we think about AMD, we mostly associated then with their GPUs, which is red. AMD was never red, it's always been green, ATi is red, not AMD. Because of that, for this build, I went with the NZXT H440 case in black/green, to show AMD's original color. Along with that there is, a 512GB SSD, two R9-290x in CrossFire X, and Asus 4K monitor.

Welcome to the 59th LTT Build-Off! The rules and previous contests can be found here.

I will be the creator of this week contest with @CornOnJacob, @terrytek and @ilikemacandpc helping out.

Budget: $2500 USD
Speakers/Headphones: Yes
Mouse: Yes
Keyboard: Yes
Monitor: Yes
Submissions: January 19th through 26th
Voting: January 27th through 2nd Feb

The AM3+ platform has finally reached the end of it life as one of the mid tier desktop for gamers. Intel has captured the mid to high end pc market. And Intel cpu performance has made the 8 core less appealing along with the lack of technologies that is found on Intel boards like PCI-E 3.0, USB 3.0, mSATA. The mentioned features are only supported by 3rd party chipsets which are found on high end mobos.

The architecture used on the FX now have been surpassed by the smaller but newer quad core Athlon x4 860k in which the latter beating the FX 8 core in terms of raw processing power for multi treaded and single treaded applications per clockspeed.

The aim is to build the best possible AMD FX pc with as much AMD parts based on the given budget.

This will be the final send off for the AM3+ platform.

Good Luck ;)

So its AMDs last hurrah and in that spirit this is red and black and red and black and red and black all over.

The CPU is self explanatory go with the highest stable (IMO) CPU in that line

Motherboard -  A solid motherboard that will perform well and hits the red and black theme

AMD memory, is there any other option here?

2x R9 290X's.  I went with the XFX cards here because I think they will look sweet in the window of the 440.  Their lines just work together.

NZXT H440 -  I went all over the place with the case at first even as far as trying to find a way to make an S-Frame work with this budget.  In the end this was just the proper case for a platform sendoff.  Color theme works and its one of the top cases out there.

Storage -  250 gig 850 EVO for your OS and your most vital of programs.  Plenty of storage for that use and the 850s are just sweet drives befitting the legendary sendoff we are doing here.  As for mass storage and the "everything else" drive you just cannot go wrong with the WD black.

PSU -  Solid brand, enough watts, gold rated aaaaannnnnndddddd something EVGA in there just to poke the AMD parts a little when no one is looking.

Mouse -  Yeah, black and red theme and stuff

Keyboard -  Solid black and red mechanical keyboard and stuff

Speakers - If you have any other "PC" speakers in your system you are doing it wrong (IMO).

Headset -  With all this stuff I was able to fit a Sennheiser, I was actually quite impressed haha

Monitor -  27inch 144hz mated with those 2 290x's..... Of course!

So yeah this I just went with black and red alllll over.  Fairly straightforward build with quality parts that would serve the AMD die hard well for a few years to come.

your build is over the budget of 2.5K

you need to reduce it or it will not be in the contest

most of the parts a red and black because usually AMD is associated with red and black...

This was mostly like a budget build to me, however I wanted it to make sure to fit the color code of black and red

NEVER GIVE UP. NEVER STOP LEARNING. DONT LET THE PAST HURT YOU. YOU CAN DOOOOO IT
