3070 vs 2080ti

Lets say you were given $500 bucks to buy a gpu. Would you 

1. Buy a 3070

2. Buy a used 2080ti

or 3. Wait for a 3070 super

4. See what AMD has to offer literally tomorrow and make a decision when third party reviews are out on these new cards.

 

If you're adamant on going with Nvidia, I wouldn't suggest buying a used 2080ti unless you get a good deal below what you can buy a 3070 for. (if at all lol)

Why would you get a 2080Ti? You either have a reduced or no warranty at all, and the same performance.

If you stream at all I'd go with Nvidia. Their Broadcast software is really quite something. Plus AMD likely won't release AIB cards for quite a while.

 

The 3070 Super likely won't come out for another year. If you can wait that long, I wouldn't even bother thinking about buying now.

without considering rdna 2, i'd probably go with a 2080ti ngl. 8gb of vram is nice but more doesnt hurt, 2080tis will probably overclock a little better on average, and turing shroud designs look better than ampere's on average imo. but if i could get a 2080ti or 3070 right now for 500 id take either in a heartbeat lol

For what are you using the computer for, if its gaming which I assume it is then the question is what games at what resolution and quality.

Well this isn't a pcpp suggestion list this is more of a general question if you had to chose one which would it be?

If you can get your hands on a cheap 3070 go for it if not wait for amd I do not reand buying 2080 ti though

For 2080ti :
- used, little / no warranty

- more vram

- higher overclocks especially with 380w bios (so maybe about 10% more performance)

 

For 3070:
- new

- less power consumption

If buying today or next week.

 

The 2080Ti would be the better choice.

 

Down the road of who knows when maybe the 3070 depending on the games etc.

IF inventory is there, the 3070 always seems like the better deal, by the simple fact that it is = to a 2080TI and 2080TI´s are more expensive used, you have NO warrenty, and you get a used card.

 

if you are so lucky as to pick up a cheaper 2080ti, that is sold way under, what used are marked at on sites, then yes it might be okay, and you will get the benifit of more Ram on the GPU, that might have an effect in the future.

 

but it just seems like that card is really not worth it. i´ve picked up a cheap 2080S with a EK WB that i have resold, so people are dumping cards (have a 3080, but the guy who sold it to me, ended up buying a 3090 since they were on stock in Denmark, and he needed the last $$$)

 

So you can make good deals, but currently with all the cards out of stock, people are not dumping used cards.

 

the 6800xt might move a bit on that picture also, because if we do get a smaller AMD card, that is cheap and also matches the 2080TI, then it might begin to look like that card can hit a price, where it is value adding.
