What the *expletive* is going on with gpu prices?

I "panic" sold my founders rtx 2070 super when ampere was announced. Got 450 for it so like no harm no foul. But like seriously WTF is up with gpu prices now? Obviously the bots are grabbing the 3080s super fast. But like prices across the board suck. Theres only really been one significant restock of the 3080s and it was on Nvidias website and they were gone in 5 minutes. I've had one in my cart 3 separate times but it never lets me check out. Been monitoring nowinstock pretty regularly but its kind of pointless. My local microcenter never has them in stock when I call and bestbuy doesn't even carry them in store. What are my options? I am kind of over the 3080 tbh the whole card pisses me off. I am not going back to the 2070 super..... Gone are the days of the 500-600 2080tis too. They're well over 1k again all over Ebay. What hope do I have for the 3070? That is the card I initially wanted( Even back in april when I built my rig I planned on using the 2070 super as a placeholder). I went for the 3080 because I thought the 3070 was going to be the hard one to get. The whole situation just blows wiener and it kind of just leaves me stuck. I've been stuck with the crappy integrated graphics of my 10850k for the past month and its no bueno. I hate all of this.

Good status update.

 

Basically it's supply, demand, marketing, economics, and capitalism with a sprinkling of pandemic and supply chain logistics.

 

it's how the world works.  Can't get a 3080, so you'd get the other stuff, but people realize this and jack the other stuff up to make more money, etc etc etc.

I hate to be that guy, but hopefully you learned something from this. Don't panic sell your gear in hopes that you can grab the latest and greatest. Especially in the world we live in now. Always plan for the worst and hope for the best. Sorry to hear that you are stuck with the iGPU for now, hopefully this month we will start to see more cards available at closer to if not MSRP hit the shelves.

 

And if you can help it, don't succumb to the Ebay scalpers. No need to support that industry. But yeah it's your money so do what you feel is best for you.

I'd rather shove a white hot rusty nail up my "you know what" then pay more than MSRP and reward a scalper so thats not gonna happen. I'm literally just going to buy the FIRST 3080/3070 that miraculously goes in stock in the next few weeks hopefully. Not going the AMD route because I have a Gsync panel

Actually had this discussion with a client yesterday because he wanted to flip he sealed 5700XT he never got to using (all hsi parts has been laying sealed in my closet since March bc I don't have the workspace to build his PC rn, he doesn't mind. Had to explain to him that AMD cards aren't selling for a ton of money, and getting anything better right now would have to be with Nvidia, and that is impossible bc supply+demand, and everything else @Dedayogsaid fucked up the pricings. 

 

 

God I hate fucking scalpers. Scammers, anybody that puts too much of a markup on their product, or start selling stuff for like 5x or more their actual value to illiterate customers makes my blood boil. 

Fuck you scalpers, fuck you scammers, fuck all of you jerks that charge way too much to tech-illiterate people. 

Unless I say I am speaking from experience or can confirm my expertise, assume it is an educated guess.

I was thinking I might go AMD but you just reminded me about G-Sync (which my monitor is)... D'oh... Oh well, I wasn't planning on getting anything until the dust settles. But like even those aren't cheap anymore. Ebay, CL, Facebook marketplace, offerup etc. Everyone wants WAY too much for their outdated cards. Even like 2080s( non super) are 500-600 right now. Which is obviously a joke because in two weeks the 3070 is going to take those cards out to a candlelight dinner, back to their place, and then #$% them until they cant see straight, for the same price or cheaper

I feel like some of those people are those than panic sold, and then learned that bots took their 3080 away from them, so now they have to wait till prob new years before they can play on PC again, so they are trying to buy back their card for an increased price. 

Fuck you scalpers, fuck you scammers, fuck all of you jerks that charge way too much to tech-illiterate people.

Don't forget demand doesn't equate to need.

 

For some reason the demand for 3080's (a 1440p and 4k card) is amazing but way out of spec for a $700-800 card.  Do all these people NEED this?

RTX 2080 Ti's prices are high now...because people actually believed in the stupid marketing HYPE.

If RTX 3070 is going to be more powerful than a 2080 Ti, then the RTX 3080 or RTX 3090 is going to be GODLY.

 

"OH SHIT! Gotta dump my RTX 2070 / 2070S / 2080 / 2080S / 2080 Ti right away...like right now!!"

Only to realize, the RTX 3080 is only ~20% faster than the 2080 Ti, and RTX 3090 is only ~10% faster than the RTX 3080 in gaming.

RTX 3070 is probably going to be on-par, or under the RTX 2080 Ti in realistic gaming  performance (most likely in between RTX 2080S and 2080 Ti).

Then people are like you...WTF?! I have no graphics card now...RTX 3080 / 3090 stock is non-existent...NEED to buy back a RTX 2080 Ti now.

If you have mass people buying...other people WILL make money off of that.
