WHOLE PC CANT TURN ON

ok so I got my new ryzen 5 3600 and decided to upgrade my cpu but after I installed it my pc cant turn on at all,no fans working or any lights on.A friend said its my psu being deffective another said something about needing to reset my cmos.what should I do

First of all, calm down.

 

Let's check some things,

 

Clear the CMOS, Small silver coin like battery on your motherboard. (might be a switch. check the manual)

 

Reseat the RAM.

 

Check all the cables.

 

You might have bend a pin in your cpu socket. Check this.

 

 

 

 

Try all of these things, in that order while trying to start inbetween these steps.

 

It could always be the PSU, try unplugging the power cable, turn the on and off knob a couple of times and hit the power button of your case.

The one claiming that it's the PSU is closer to the truth, imho.

It did work before the upgrade? Did you remove power from the system and did you let it discharge? Check if the PSU itself is working. Check if the cables are seated properly.

Check the cpu and the socket, check all connectors, again - there may be a short.

What you should start with is double checking all you connectors if they are plugged in properly. Unplug them and plug them again. You can’t imagine how many times this simple thing sorted out all problems.

You can also check psu if its alive, just jump it with paperclip (just remember to unplug cables from mobo).

Next will be trying to reseat cpu and check it with one stick of ram. Do all of that first, if any of them not gonna help we will investigate further.

What motherboard? What CPU did you have before? If you had a 2xxx CPU before you'll likely need to update the mobo's BIOS with the old CPU installed before you can use the new one.

I forgot to mention to switch it off before that  

Thats proper procedure to do it:

1. Disconnect your power supply from your motherboard if you have not already.

2. Flip the switch on the back of your power supply to the off position "0"

3. On the 24 Pin connector locate the green wire** going into pin 16 (see diagram below for pin numbering) 

4. Insert one end of the paperclip into the pin 16

5. Insert the other end of the paper clip into pin 17 that has a black wire going into it. (you can also plug it in on any of the black ground wires)

6. Flip the switch on your power supply to the on "|" position.

If you had a previous Gen chip, on a previous Gen mobo, Im betting @Kilrah has the fix.  Your (OP) description of the problem is what happens when what @Kilrah is mentioning needs to take place (BIOS update)

You most likely right, best to check if mono supports that cpu, but just in case I gave him all the troubleshooting steps to follow.

yes it worked b4 the upgrade.I didnt remove the psu coz theres like so many cables and stuff.Same thing happened to my friend and we have the same exact motherboard and cpu.Until we both upgraded our cpu our pc couldnt turn on

yes the mobo suppprts that cpu its an A320M-HDV and my cpu is a ryzen 5 3600.Even tho if it didnt support the cpu atleast some shit should turn on right?but my pc wont turn on at all

my mobo is an A230M-HDV and my old cpu is a ryzen 3 2200G and the new one I jst installed is a ryzen 5 3600.I updated my bios b4 I installed my new cpu so its not the bios

I have an A320M-HDV and my old cpu was a ryzen 3 2200G and the new cpu I just installed is a ryzen 5 3600 and yes ive already updated bios b4 installing it

I suspect its the psu coz like the pc cant turn on like nothing is lighting up,no sound and no fan spinning

Are you sure you're running the latest version? Download the latest BIOS version (currently P6.0) and use your old CPU to update the motherboard BIOS. 

 

What model graphics card are you using? The 3600 does not have integrated graphics like the 2200G, so you will be required to use a dedicated graphics card. Though I don't believe this is your problem as you should still see fans spin when you try to turn it on just no display output. 

 

What model was your old power supply and what model is your new power supply?

If you haven't tried it already install your old CPU and see if it boots with the new power supply.

 

Can you post a photo of your system just so we can see if there is anything missing or standing out, like unplugged power cables or such?

I already updated my bios to p.6 b4 installing the cpu and I have a gtx 1060 already installed.

Idk what PSU the OP has, but if its cables are colored like the ones on my Corsair AX760 (and a lot of not-bomb PSUs these days - I think pretty much everything above Tier D or so) ...

Sorry I couldn't unplug it - the system is running as you could probably tell by the CPU cooler fan.

(The 24-pin connector is above the SATA ports and just to the right of the RAM, which is right of the CPU cooler.)

 

Next PSU I get, I want the wires colored based on their electrical properties, like cheap PSUs are (but I'd be likely going for like an 80+ Platinum Tier A+ or better unit probably, depending on what I put it in.)

Well instead og going by the colours just follow the diagram of pin layout. Clearly it says pin 16 and 17 so you don"t need to see colours.

And please clean all of that dust from cooler, my eyes hurt looking at it hahaha

Ahh. (You'd said any of the black wires, using 17 as an example, as if it wasn't the only black ground wire.)

 

And I did clean it about a month or so ago, maybe two.  It just gets kinda dusty where I live.  (I'm east of San Diego, CA, pretty much right on the transition line in satellite view in Google maps between suburban (west) vs rural / mountains (east).)  Also there are quite a few webs / etc around the living room in which the computers are (and a bunch of other stuff stored in the room as well).
