AMD Announces Ryzen 3000 PRO Processors, Picasso PRO APUs, and Athlon PRO

"AMD also announced Ryzen 5 PRO 3400G and 3400GE, along with Ryzen 3 3200G and 3200GE models that are all still fabbed on the 12nm process with the Zen+ architecture. A lone Athlon processor rounds out the product stack."

 

These seem to be low powered counterparts to the non PRO versions, as many of these are lower TDP with slower clock speeds. So I'm guessing these are for smaller systems? I'm sure one of you smarter guys than me can tell us why they seem to want cooler and less power hungry chips. My guess is for systems that aren't CPU heavy. (EDIT: The lower TDP chips are in the article. I'm not sure what these 65W chips are for)

So it does seem to be a bit about TDP and power along with security features.

Weren't the Pro processors just ones with added security features? Such as encrypting the RAM in real time.

I don't recall them actually being any better, as can be seen by them having pretty much the same spec as the regular chips.

 

The most interesting thing here is the R9 3900. I wonder what the non X will be priced at.

Lower clocked chips probably for silicon that couldn't make the cut for the X versions. AMD has had problems with their silicon not hitting desired clockspeeds so this is probably to reduce the money lost on those

I think it'll be priced closer to the 3900x than the 3800x because there are stock issues with the 3900x, and this could help ease it a little because AMD has said their stock issues are due to unsatisfactory clockspeeds

The real question is if these non X chips will even reach their rated boost. I know for myself getting my 3900X to reach 4.6 boost even with agesa abba required PBO.

Yeah, I'm not too sure either. A lot of people with 3900X's can't even reach boost clock even with PBO enabled.

Their suggested retail pricing will be different than real world pricing for a bit, sure, but it will still show what it should be priced at.

The non-pro 3900 has a 4.3GHz boost clock. Even 3700X can boost correctly to 4.4GHz after the new BIOS update. 4.3GHz should be a piece of cake.

I'd guess that availability for the 3900 should be much better than the 3900x because of the lower target clockspeed, so I'd be surprised if AMD struggles to push those out too. Pricing in the US should be MSRP unless AMD are really struggling with clocks

Depending on the price breaks and binning we may be disappointed.

 

I agree it "should" be easy, I can't wait till people start to get the chips and try them out.

Yeh, depends on the price. Let's say the 3900 is $50-60 cheaper. How many people would prefer 12 cores with much lower clock speed?

 

I doubt AMD will sell the 3900 at ~$399.

Crazier things have happened. When the first Ryzen chips came out, the 1700 retailed for $329, the 1700X for $399 and the 1800X for $499. Who’s to say the 3900 won’t go for $399?

That being said, I won’t hold my breath on that, but rather retailing for $429 or $449.

That's some good news for the office space. I've bought a couple dozen of Lenovo M715q for customers lately and I've heard only good feedbacks from them. The 2400GE is a very capable chip so I'm glad to see an upgrade coming soon.

I was looking at the TDP of the APUs and they were 35W which made me think that they were for systems in which power usage or temperatures were a concern.
