i9-9900k vs new AMD CPU's

I know much hasn't been released on the new AMD 3000 cpu's but when it comes to gaming, will the newer AMD CPU's yield better performance than the i7-9700k or even the i9-9900k?

If latency is still higher with AMD than it might not be the best gaming solution for something like an FPS.

It's probably hitting about even if anything.

But if you only use a 60hz display it doesn't really matter what modern CPU you choose, and Ryzen is way cheaper so...

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

We know it matches the 9900k at least when GPU limited like in the benchmark they showed ?

It about matches Intels part at somewhere between half the price and 50% off.

the 9900k is NOT 95w, it's closer to at least 135w regardless of what intel says, if you already bought 9900k, no reason to upgrade, if u haven't bought anything, go with the cheaper option, amd also has direct lanes from cpu to m2 slot (minimize the latency problems of the first 2 gens and pci-e 4.0 which will boost gpu performance SLIGHTLY.

It's not looking like it, no. Based on what we saw out of Computex today, the 3800x matched the 9900K (albeit for $80 cheaper). That's what they chose to show, which likely means it's the best case scenario. We'll of course know more once July 7th hits and the embargo is lifted. For productivity, however, Intel seems to have gotten destroyed completely.

We still don't know yet, all we can do is shitpost. AMD didn't really reveal a lot of information about their CPUs today, hopefully we will learn more at E3. Reviewers getting their hands on the silicon to run independent benchmarks will be the best way to compare the two, ultimately.

depends on the 8 core boost, those are the single core boost #s, 65w could be 4.0 all core and 105w can be 4.4

You already have a 1600?

Is it doing anything too slow for you?

My wife has a 1600. It's just fine. I see no reason at all to upgrade her to a 3000 series chip (except possibly to make a whole new system and make the 1600 my tv gamer, but not straight upgrade)

Unless you need to, you're just falling for AMD's "upgrade path" marketing trick to get you to buy more CPUs.

I basically need a Cinebench single core score of 262 before it is worth my while to upgrade. That is only about the difference between the i9 9900k and R7 2700x.

An update that would be a game changer for me would be the difference between my old i7 2600k and my i7 8086k and for that I need a score of 308. That would probably mean a 6ghz chip.

With the tests that I have done with a RTX 2080 ti along with a stock i7 8700k, i7 8086k and a i9 9900k I learned that it takes a 5ghz CPU not so severely bottleneck at 1080p and 1440p. More cores at lower clocks are not going to change that.

Maybe with PCI 4 that all changes and the new Ryzen "go fast" chips will be sufficient. I don't know. but I need an upgrade so matching an i9 9900k is not good enough for me to do that.

So if one of my computers died within the next few months I would have to go with the i9 9900k. It is a known quantity. If benches prove the new Ryzen chips don't bottleneck a 2080 ti it is still not an upgrade for me.

As for watts used my electricity bill as not changed in the last 15 years. That is running an an i9 9900k, 2 i7 8086k, 1 i7 6700k and a i5 2500k. It is probably because of more efficient appliances. If I am not feeling it I personally don't care.

Memory latency.  Intel can get into the 30ns range and AMD is double that.

You do know that Intel violates the TDP by a mile, that AMD consumed a fair bit less in the CES Presentation?

But yeah, obviously there are people who want to pay ~200€ more for a worse overall product because of Name on the Box...

At 5GHz we're more talking about 200-250W Power Consumption rather than 95W. The AMD 105W TDP might actuall be honest and inside what you'd expect...

Well, it isn't the first time that AMD was better than Intel...

No, AMD might just have phased out 95W TDP Class. Meaning its just over 65W. It might also have a different boost mechanism and hold the higher frequency for more cores.

Something like this:

https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/AMD/Ryzen_7_2700/16.html

The 2700X boosts a fair bit higher than the 2700...

Also, as said earlier, AMD TDP means it, that the TDP won't be violated much.

With Intel, the TDP means at BASE CLOCK, so the Turbo can do whatever it wants to. ANd if it consumes 500W, so be it.
