BOINC Pentathlon 2019

Go to solution Solved by jakkuh_t,

Seems like the easiest way for most people to help out is in the Marathon.

This involves downloading BOINC, selecting the "World Community Grid" project, and then selecting the sub-project "OpenZIKA".

1. Download + Install BOINC (https://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php

2. Open BOINC and click "Add Project"

3. Select the "World Community Grid" project, and then click on their website url. (https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/discover.action)

4. On their Website, click "Join Now" at the top left or right depending. Enter your information and Register.

5. Once presented with the Sub project selection, choose "OpenZIKA" and click next. It will download a program, but you don't need it.

6. Go back to the BOINC app and click "Next >". Login with the World Community Grid account that you just signed up for.

Your BOINC app will now benchmark your system, and then start running.

BUT, you still need to set your team to the LTT forum one.

7. Navigate to the team selection page, and login if you aren't already (https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/team/viewMyTeam.do)

8. Type in "LinusTechTips" in the "Contains:" field.

9. Click on the "LinusTechTips_Team" result that shows up. Once the page loads click "Join Team".

You will now be BOINCing for the LTT team :D

This is the easiest way to help out the cause, but there are more beneficial / advanced ways to do so if you're interested. Refer to the OP for more information.

I was kinda thinking OCN would have put up more of a fight. Haven't been there in a while though.

Does diamond have it's own multi-levels? Cause diamond starts at 5 years.

I shot colonel_mortis a message about badges and he linked Whiskers to the conversation (I had a feeling colonel_mortis didn't directly handle badges). So we'll see how things go. Maybe I'll get a shiny badge maybe not.

You don't see the BOINC badges often on the forum. Forum seems overwhelmingly in favor of folding.

I'm currently team rank 269 for BOINC, 3090 overall (assuming I'm looking at the correct number)

Neither do I but it said it simply enough for team rank. I wonder how far I'll get if I continue to let my servers crunch at about 50~75% capacity. I have to balance power/heat/noise before I can even claim 50% though.

The forum board change upset folks a good bit.  Along with the pictures mishandling and rep system being down for a good few months along with the rig builder.  A few of us came over here to LTT, and I think some others went over to TPU and other tech boards.  I still lurk OCN a tad, mostly just to read what 1usmus has about Ryzen/TR and tictoc's info in the F@H/BOINC thread.

Does not help that a long time F@H/BOINCer called Hertz passed away (he the one who invited me into the Chimp Challenge and help me get into folding and boincing).

Watch it, we might burn you too. The first bunch of days you had like 1/2 your servers running at 60% capacity.

:I  I'm unsure....but I did have a GTX1080Ti OCed and spitting WUs out ever seven minutes.  The GTX960 FTW under Linux was happily doing two WUs at a time (it still such a tanky card).

Top 500 is about 1,000,000,000 points these days.

I’ll be celebrating that milestone in about 8 days.

We need a Platinum Badge and @Den-Fi will need a double-platinum (unobtanium?) Badge soon.
