Hardly, Hasbro has shut down a fan project called "MLP Fighting is Magic" which was your normal 2d Tekken style fighting game featuring the main cast:

The project got a gigantic support from the community and lots of people got involved, we even have a Alpha release and it was genuinely a good fighting game as far these go, with all the little combos and what not, you could go online on it and all.

 

Hasbro didn't like it though and issued a cease and desist order on the everyone, pressure got to the level the project got buried.

 

Fan art like drawing, animations and what not is perfectly fine and safe, Hasbro enjoys that side of the fandom and incentives it specially for publicity purposes however when you start doing software based on it with very clear chances of monetization they will knock on your door really quick.

Yes the game assets were re-purposed on Them's Fightin' Herds however the lack of MLP signature on it really tanked the project which was expected as it become just another generic fighting game with unknown characters.

 

What is shameful is that this game did have a gigantic potential but Hasbro only cares for the mobile gaming overfilled with micro-transactions apparently, easier to cash in... less risks involved.

so now that my summer holiday has started i really want to give making an MLP themed linux distro a shot... 

 

since you peeps in here are most likely to try it out, i want to make it based on your suggestions.. 

so like, what desktop should i use, what distro should i base it on etc etc... 

 

also, i still need to ask whoever is in charge of the MLP franchise for approval, but i don't know who to contact... do any of you know?

I'm not familiar with many Linux distros, but Manjaro looks pretty clean. 

My main suggestion is not to make it overly pony.

btw, keep in mind @Twilight has to do it with a certain desktop (kde, cinnamon, gnome, xfce), so you could leave that as well

ok peeps nevermind. asking for approval from hasbro is annoying and realistically they would never approve a project like this. also there are things with making a proper distro i did not realize and it would consume too much time to be honest. it was a fun idea but no. 

 

besides all i was gonna do anyway was set up a desktop with a nice theme, a custom icon set and include a bunch of wallpapers. you can do all of that yourself.

Latest in pony news, Wizards of the Coast has partnered with Hasbro to produce Magic: The Gathering trading cards. The set has been dubbed  "Ponies: The Galloping", and is only available October 22 through November 5th. The two companies decided to collaborate specifically to raise funds for The Seattle Children’s Hospital, which will receive 60/80% of the gross revenue.
