Free SMB2.0 Android App?

Olaf6541

Hi all,

I recently updated to FreeNAS 11.2 and my SMB share on it, and now ES File Explorer either wants me to install adware or pay a monthly fee because of SMB2.0... I looked into Solid Explorer but it only has a free trial version of 14 days and even on that version I can't get my SMB share to work (can't find hostname/communication error). FX File Explorer requires the paid version to use network files...

Any other suggestions for a free app I can use to access my SMB share on android?

Thanks

total commander for android has a plugin to access smb shares.

the UI is pretty terrible, but it does what it needs to do.

I use AndSMB, it can do V1-3 and has loads of options and other stuff.

I just use it as a simple way to grab files but I'm sure it can do more.

I make intelligent lights do cool things

ES file explorer still works, it's just an advert basically, once you download the app you can carry on using it... I did for ages before I decided to get the pro version anyway, which is like £3 or something.

Hey OP, just out of interest, what file types do you want to access? there may be some other apps suitable to do what you want.

I'm not gonna install crap just to use the app... File types are just the general ones: word, excel, pdf, jpg, mp4, txt, etc.

I have no problem with Solid Explorer and SMB shares. And even if it's paid, is really very cheap.

I wouldn't mind paying a couple of bucks if it's worth it but Solid Explorer gave a 'can't find host' error when selecting smb2, and a 'network communication error' when selecting smb1.

Somehow AndSMB didn't work either, so I ended up with total commander. It works and has a crappy but pretty similar UI as ES File explorer so I'm used to that...
