JP! reacted to LyricX in HOW-TO: Migrate off of Authy's proprietary system and extract your OTP Secrets
I figured I would do a quick write up on this as I just utilized this method to backup all of my OTP's to another service while still using Authy's.

Step 1.) Download Google Chrome (and enable developer mode)
                 Doc on DevMode - https://developer.chrome.com/docs/extensions/mv3/faq/#faq-dev-01
Step 2.) Download Authy Extension https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/authy/gaedmjdfmmahhbjefcbgaolhhanlaolb?hl=en
It will claim it is deprecated, but just continue as normal and validate your account with another device and authenticate with your master password to unlock all of your OTP's.
Step 3.) Open chrome://extensions/?id=gaedmjdfmmahhbjefcbgaolhhanlaolb in chrome. There should be a backpage listed there, if the application is running then main.html will be displayed. If not, make sure to load the extension and have it running on your Desktop PC.
Step 4.) Click main.html and make sure it is in console mode.
Step 5.) C+P the following Code into the console:

    appManager.getModel().forEach(function(i){ if(i.markedForDeletion === false){ console.log('otpauth://totp/'+i.name+'?secret='+i.decryptedSeed+'&issuer='+i.accountType); } });

Step 6.) Profit - you should get outputs similiar to the following: otpauth://totp/WebsiteHere - Description?secret=YOURSecretOTPCodeStringHere&issuer=VENDOR/SOURCE (MAY VARY)
Step 7.) Copy and paste your secret strings into bitwarden, lastpass, 1Password, or wherever you are migrating too. (your choice). - Or simply use this trick to backup your codes if you didn't from the get go.

JP! reacted to Hairless Monkey Boy in Requesting positive vibes, Why does everyone think you can't expect PC performance from a mobile device? Specifically a phone or thin and light laptop
Because if a mobile device can beat a desktop PC, then we would just put the mobile device's processor and GPU into a desktop, with more power and better cooling, and then the desktop would get better performance again.

The constraint in mobile is power and cooling.

Implying either that there are polycarbonate plastics in those things (there aren’t  that I know of but I don’t know much ) the only polycarbonate I know of is the clear plastic they sometimes carve watercooler parts out of.  Polycarbonates just means “lots of carbonates” though which could include things besides a particular kind of strong but brittle plastic. The thing about PCBS though is they’re fiberglass with layers of copper in between the layers neither of which include would not include any polycarbonate at all.  This whole thing seems to be based on “do they use polycarbonates in computer parts?” The answer people are giving seems to be “no, or at least not any that matter in this case”.

PC PCBs are not polycarb.  Full stop.

Seals and gaskets?  A normal motherboard doesn't have those either.

They're not made of polycarb in general for PCs.

So everyone is trashing Nvidia for charging too much for the 3080 ti.

I do not get this take. YOU ARE NOT GETTING THIS CARD AT MSRP. You  will be lucky to even see an "add to cart button" Nvidia should charge $2000. Leave no margin for scalpers. Put that extra cash into R&D. When the crypto boom is over, we get better cards and they can slash prices.

There is actual value from mining. Miners will pay whatever they can if they still make a profit. That is the value of the card. Asking Nvidia to give up that profit,  is insane. You will not benefit from it. The only ones who gain will be scalpers.

This goes for AMD and Sony as well. I would much rather the money go into research for next gen cards than into scalper pockets

Choose one phone, and move your sim/subscription/apps there.

Or rather, you will carry two phones, on a single device.

At the time, i found Keepass complicated specially to sync with other devices, via dropbox.

I have several devices, using Android and Windows, so i need the sync. I remember that there was a Keepass implementation to Android (Keepass2Android), but i did try it and it was another pain to use. The fragmentation is/was one off the problems of Keepass, in my opinion.

Since i switched to 1password, which works great on Android, Firefox, Windows, i am happy, except for the price.

I actually ended up switching TO KeePass. I feel overall a lot more comfortable with the idea that all of my passwords are stored locally.

It works for me because all of my computing is generally done on the same machine so the internet sync functionality was redundant to me most of the time.
The only real issue I have with it is that I now have to type passwords manually if I want to log in on my phone, which is quite rare for me. That was the case with Bitwarden too given how often the app didn't work for me, and of course is now the case for Lastpass as well.

JP! reacted to toadseanotes in Folding@Home Exascale Supercomputer Finds Potential Targets For COVID-19 Cure
An anonymous reader quotes a report from Network World: The Folding@home project has shared new results of its efforts to simulate proteins from the SARS-CoV-2 virus to better understand how they function and how to stop them. Folding@home is a distributed computing effort that uses small clients to run simulations for biomedical research when users' PCs are idle. The clients operate independently of each other to perform their own unique simulation and send in the results to the F@h servers. In its SARS-CoV-2 simulations, F@h first targeted the spike, the cone-shaped appendages on the surface of the virus consisting of three proteins. The spike must open to attach itself to a human cell to infiltrate and replicate. F@h's mission was to simulate this opening process to gain unique insight into what the open state looks like and find a way to inhibit the connection between the spike and human cells.

And it did so. In a newly published paper, the Folding@home team said it was able to simulate an "unprecedented" 0.1 seconds of the viral proteome. They captured dramatic opening of the spike complex, as well as shape-shifting in other proteins that revealed more than 50 "cryptic" pockets that expand targeting options for the design of antivirals. [...] The model derived from the F@h simulations shows that the spike opens up and exposes buried surfaces. These surfaces are necessary for infecting a human cell and can also be targeted with antibodies or antivirals that bind to the surface to neutralize the virus and prevent it from infecting someone. "And the tech sector played a big role in helping the find," adds the anonymous Slashdot reader. "Microsoft, Nvidia, AMD, Intel, AWS, Oracle, and Cisco all helped with hardware and cloud services. Pure Storage donated a one petabyte all-flash storage array. Linus Tech Tips, a hobbyist YouTube channel for home system builders with 12 million followers, set up a 100TB server to take the load off."

POS is the till itself, not the payment terminal.  The payment terminal may be part of that POS, or not.  Smaller stores it often is not and connects over the cell network or WiFi (older units over traditional telephone lines).

For the DHCP-server to work, it needs to be able to see broadcast-messages, so it needs low-level access to the network. Port-forwarding isn't enough.

JP! reacted to WereCatf in Pihole on Docker/WSL - DNS works, DHCP doesn't
For DHCP to work, the machines send a request to the network to find a DHCP-server. For DNS, you've already given them the IP-address, so there is no need for them to find it in the first place!
