What to do with old Laptop?

Go to solution Solved by jj9987,

I'm not fully sure of it's capabilities, but I'm guessing it can handle a video call? You could donate it to a family, whose children might need one due to remote studies/schools or who wants to learn computers and IT. That is, if you are willing to get rid of it.

Hi, I own an old Laptop with the following specs:

HP 250 G6

CPU: Intel Celeron N3350

RAM: 8GB

SSD (SATA): 256GB

Display: 1366x768

Optical drive

So I dont want this thing to become e-waste, but I am afraid it will be.

What could be good uses for this old warrior (my first own PC!)

Any suggestion is welcome and I am not afraid of modding (I mean, I can salvage most of the parts)

You can always try to sell it, at least where I live, this thing still has a value of a few hundred bucks. Some older Laptops have some collector value when you find the right people. Other option is to simply keep it. Given a few Years or Decades time almost every piece of tech will become highly valued by retro folks and collectors. You could also pass it down to a relative, maybe a kid you know. Sounds like a very good starter PC/laptop.

Idk

If i did have some e waste laying around like that then i would personally just look at modding and see what i can do

Not sure on what mods you can do but the first thing id do is try unlinking the bclk from everything other than the cpu and ram and have everything else handled by an external clock generator aka a turbo pll mod so you can swap the crystal next to the pll for a faster one for bclk oc

Though i think you are better off following the reply above rather than screwing around with modding

That actually not bad for browsing internet.

You can always use it for backup, incase your primary system goes bonkers.

Hook it up to a TV, install some multimedia app, you got yourself a HTPC.

If you have ethernet run or are willing to deal with some latency, you could always use it for Steam in home streaming, giving yourself some freedom to move around from time to time, otherwise you could once again use it browse the web watch some YT videos, or could be turned it to a Minecraft server, or other game server.

Haven't thought about donating, but it seems like a good way to go.

I already have a Backup Laptop, so I don't really need it.

All the new TV's are smart TV's anyways, so theres no real need in that too...

I thought, maybe there are some cool mods or I could use it as a small server, but when there's no use in that, than I'll donate it, so someone in need can use it!

Thanks guys!
