DigitalGoat got a reaction from Tan3l6 in is this safe?
    Safe? Possibly.
I would check those inner sheaths for damage, at least wrap the gap in plenty of electrical tape and eliminate as much cable stress as possible. Ideal thing to do is buy a new cable.

You might want to keep an eye on your BIOS as well, some Asus BIOS have settings that auto download a couple of apps, Armoury Crate etc, when you install Windows, you can turn the settings off, but BIOS updates can reset them to on.
I don't know if any Gigabyte BIOS do the same or if it might be a 'feature' they will introduce in newer updates.

DigitalGoat got a reaction from RevGAM in RTX 4070 ti Has Horrible Frame Times with Shaders in Minecraft
Most of the shader packs for Minecraft Java rely on something like Optifine to run properly & need the correct version of both that and the shader pack for the version of Minecraft.
Some shader packs need certain settings chosen in the shader menus in order to work as well.
Resource packs may also work better with a particular shader pack and settings.
I do not use Minecraft Bedrock but assume there are similar choices to make, although that version does support RTX ray tracing.
The difference between running recommended software setups and not can be night & day.
Nearly all the resource and shader pack creators have detailed guides on thier websites for installing and running thier mods.

If you still have issues after researching the above then you might need to adjust some other settings in the GPU drivers or the server settings to improve performance, there are guides out there but they tend to be specific to the mods used and not general 'how to' guides.

I personally use BSL shaders with John Smith's Legacy resource pack under Optifine (all updated for  MC 1.20) on an RTX 3080 with Freesync and have no issues with fps or frame pacing.

DigitalGoat got a reaction from NobleGamer in Errors in some videogames after nvidia drivers update
One thing that may help is to clear out the cache folders in the USER\Appdata\Local\Nvidia folder and the D3DSCache, these can cause issues with updated drivers and are not always removed using the clean install option or DDU.

DigitalGoat got a reaction from ClickARoniSpaghettiToni in AutoCad removes perminent licenses from amputee making own hand
It is not illegal (immoral maybe), you agree to the licence conditions/ terms of service by using the software.
Buried somewhere in those terms is a clause allowing the developers/ providers to change conditions with very little to no notice needed and stating that they retain ownership of the software.
The story linked by the OP is sad and frustrating but the company did not target a disabled user, the change applies to all users.

It might be possible for people who bought a licence under the original terms to ask for a refund if they no longer want to use the software, this might be backed up by local consumer protection laws or it might not, but worth a try.

This is happening to more and more software as the companies producing the apps realise they can make more money with a subscription model than selling a one off licence, it makes perfect sense from a long term profit viewpoint, even though it may well alienate a small percentage of the user base.

DigitalGoat got a reaction from AverageLeo in Should I reinstall Windows 11?
You have 3 choices, put up with it the way it is, try a repair install keeping your apps & settings (which may well keep the undesired behaviour) or clean install.
Use an imaging program to create an image of your current system, then try a repair install, if it works all good, if it doesn't then do a clean install.
If you really want the original system back just restore the image.
For a truly fresh start only a clean install will do that, delete all partitions back to a fully unallocated disk and let Windows create the ones it needs and then install it.
Depending on your setup you might want to isolate all disks except the one you want to put Windows on.

DigitalGoat got a reaction from kelvinhall05 in How do people use terminal for everything, especially external actions?
Exactly, I was directly replying to your example of, I assume, Windows menu nesting and search failure in the GUI and the frustration resulting.
Which example is similar to how people react without much Linux experiance when faced with the terminal there.
The problem is, as the OP says, when on a Linux based forum you tend to be shouted down and made fun of if you refer to a GUI option, often with 'if you want OS for dummies, use Windows', the truth being that as many if not more Windows functions can be run from the run box, command, PowerShell & terminal, the same as with Linux.
Having a terminal open on either OS for running commands is always going to be quicker than finding a menu or drilling down through layers of shortcuts, but it is not the ONLY way to use an OS and should not be enforced through some wierd sense of purism and insulting behaviour, which is the meat of the OP's post.

Either a cable being pinched/ pushed causing a dodgy connection/ short or the back plate/ side panel is contacting the back of the motherboard somehow (although I doubt this as there is a motherboard tray between the panel and motherboard).

I think to be safe yes. Make a note of the reg entry in notepad or something so you can find it again, just delete the reg entry value if you want to revert. The only issue you have is knowing when the normal update that enables seconds will be pushed to you.😅

Yes, sorry, I meant to include that you may need to create the reg entry since it isn't there by default. I think the settings options are no so much regional as device plus update status specific.

You can try two things, one is to edit the registry: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced] "ShowSecondsInSystemClock"=dword:00000001
The other is to enable the setting under Windows Update 'Get the latest updates as soon as released'.
    A reboot may be needed.
There is no guarantee these will work as MS are rolling out features selectively, some people who had the setting working are suddenly finding it removed, people on the same builds & same os version... so your experiance may be different. 🙂

Use an app like TreeSize Free (there is a portable version, so no install needed) to check the source and destination folders for differences in files and sizes.
The two drives could have different sector sizes.

DigitalGoat got a reaction from Key2300 in How can I make sure RAM will run at 2400MHz without XMP or timing settings?
You need a set of RAM that is JDEC rated at the speed you want, that way it will not need any overclocking/ XMP profile support in the BIOS, normally if you can find the same make/ model of fitted RAM there will be JDEC options available.

DigitalGoat got a reaction from Dedayog in Should I upgrade my 2080ti to a 4070?
Just about every tech channel now has benchmark results in a variety of productivity apps and games at the three most common resolutions for the 4070 including, within the last day or so, partner versions of the cards. It should be fairly easy now to work out whether an upgrade for you makes sense or not when comparing to the 2080ti, most of the benchmarks still include that card along with older cards like the 1080.
Techtester has two partner cards reviewed currently, Gamers Nexus and Hardware Unboxed have quite in depth 4070 reviews and conclusions.
