Meganter reacted to Cre8 Modding in Building a PC for Mumbo Jumbo
In late 2020 MSI got in touch with me to create a system for a client of theirs, this was to be a gift for Christmas to replace an aging system. At the time they couldn’t tell me much, just that it needed to be a show build but not over the top, have a black and white theme, and that under no circumstances should there be a hint of rainbow puke anywhere.

That sort of brief doesn’t make things easy and then, more pressure was added. Once MSI and the client confirmed everything they wanted in terms of hardware, they could finally let me know who this system was for. This was a system for a guy called Oliver Brotherhood, or, as he is more commonly known, Mumbo Jumbo.

Now I will admit that I didn’t have a clue who he was and so I had to have a quick Google. It turns out Mumbo is a Minecraft influencer with close to 7m YouTube subscribers, having an 11-year-old son who plays a lot of Minecraft, I mentioned Mumbo Jumbo and he immediately got excited, he knew exactly who I was talking about. At this point, I’m starting to feel a little old and out of touch

So with Mumbo needing his new PC rather quickly, I didn’t have much time to get a full build log going, plus it was kept under wraps. Now, finally, I can show off what I came up with as Oli has the system to hand and is planning to release his own content on this system.

    In terms of specs, we have;

Thermaltake Technology Inc Level 20 GT Intel I9-10900K MSI Z490 Godlike MSI Gaming GeForce RTX 3090 Suprim 24G Corsair 128 GB (4 x 32 GB) 3600MHZ Samsung 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME SSD Samsung 2 TB M.2-2280 NVME SSD Be quiet! (English) Dark Power Pro 12 1200W Alphacool English CPU Custom Loop

In terms of the hardware, the only choices I could make were for the CPU loop and power supply, between Oli and MSI they picked the hardware list and I am sure this was done before AMD 5XXX launch. Now the 10900K isn’t a slouch by any means but I do wonder if Oli would have gone with AMD or if he just simply prefers Intel-based systems.

I am more than happy with how it turned out, especially given the time frame and the brief. MSI wanted to keep the 3090 Suprim 24G air-cooled to show it off and that meant I could keep the CPU loop a little more manageable. I didn’t know how much experience Oli has with filling and draining systems for maintenance and so this way, it keeps everything really simple.

As I mentioned, my lad loves Mumbos videos, and its great for me to be part of something where by me building Oli a system, he can then in turn make more content and then go full circle. Will sure put a smile on my face to know my lad is watching content produced on a system I built!

So some of you might know that my previous build met it's end in a rather unpleasant way.
The bottom GPU power connector caught fire through some shitty Aliexpress adapter, and in turn burned the whole thing down.
Here's some pics of the carnage that followed:
So this build is going to be a continuation where my previous one left off.

    specs:
    AMD Threadripper 2970WX (purchased)
    32GB GSkill Trident Z (purchased)

Meganter reacted to AINExe in Migrated Coffeelake PC to the O11DW
I was GPU-less since September last year, as I sold my 1080 Ti Strix after Ampere was announced. Didn't expect stock would kill itself, so I didn't get a 3080 until mid-December, and glad I got the one without the red lip. Didn't install it to my PC until just now since I wanted to get all the parts I have before I started switching cases so I would cable manage everything in one go.

So, literally just hours ago, I finally finished switching cases from the Phanteks P350X to the O11DW. My main gripe about the O11DW, that while it is quite roomy, it has bare bones routing or tie points for cable management, the middle and upper top are what you get. It took me hours, first by remaking my cables, and actually managing the cables inside the case, whereas my P350X my only issue was that it was tight but I managed it. Second issue was the HDD/SSD mounting at the back plate, it was flat enough that it was difficult to insert SATA power connectors to the drives. I had to route the connector under the drive, luckily SATA cables are flat. Third, is a small thing but it can be attributed to the Motherboard/fans, but USB 3.1 connectors is impossible to connect to the header if it's at the bottom and if you have fans there. Asus moved the USB header to the side near the 24-pin on Maximus XII series it seems.

I actually liked how it turned out. I think there's a certain aesthetic to fans having no LEDs and how white accentuates the color of other sources of LEDs. After I bought the O11DW, originally I was gonna buy RGB fans like the UniFans, but I got the idea for this theme after I saw some O11DW builds on PCP using only Arctic P12 white fans and some LEDs. The Phantek's LED strip is probably the thinnest LED strip that's diffused that I know of, if anyone can suggest another I can check it out so I can make the LED strips more subtle. The 3080 + cables are a tight fit btw, almost hitting the glass. Since they're PET cables as well, it's stiff, so I had to really flex it back.

Still somewhat WIP. I plan on either buying additional 16GB ram for production work as 16GB alone isn't cutting it anymore for me, or getting a Dominator Platinum RGB White 4x8GB. Might still try to make the LEDs' cables hidden. Also gonna do some cable management on my desk, buy some desk wire clamps for my cables and an aluminum bracket for my surge protector under my desk. Might also make/have someone make a custom GPU bracket for me, as the FTW3 is a lot heavier than my 1080 Ti Strix.

Still rocking the 8700k, originally I was going to switch to the 3900 earlier last year, but I was spending so much on my audio hobby left and right, that I already spent more than my entire PC is now.  Although I might switch to AM4 this year, preferably 5700 if that comes out, or go broke 5900. Alternatively not at all, since there's a chance I'll be living in Japan this year or the next, so might build a new PC altogether, just going to bring my drives and GPU with me.

There is a difference in this case between 73.9 and 73.90, as it would tell us about the precision of the value. 73.9 implies an error margin of 0.05, while 73.90 implies an error margin of 0.005. It's not about the mathematical value of the number, it's about the information that it gives us.

Also, it's just neater if the numbers are all just rounded to the same number of significant digits, or the same number of decimal places.

It happens every day but it does not happen to everyone and everywhere. The likelihood of me getting mugged is statistically insignificant, let alone get stabbed out of nowhere for a handful of cash that I'd just give them if they threatened me. There are some categories who are more statistically at risk but I don't fall into any of them.

And again, what could I even realistically do to prevent it even if I assumed everyone was out to stab me? Even if I carried a weapon with me I couldn't just pull it on random strangers all the time... and by the time the knife is out it's usually too late.
That way I can headbutt them and escape

Most people use their eyes to detect what the people around them are doing (unless you for some reason like overhearing other people's conversations...?), and it is in fact possible to remove earbuds that are being worn, if needed. They are not an implant.
I don't know about you, but I like using my eyes to observe the traffic around me. Look both ways before crossing, etc. If you are just walking straight into the road, and relying on listening for traffic, I would be more worried about you.
Ah, yes, because people that do not wear earbuds never get stabbed or mugged. I did not know that calling 911, a trip to the ER, or even death is sometimes a consequence of being stabbed, thank you for informing us about this, you are very smart.
Ah, yes, correlation = causation. You not wearing earbuds in traffic is the only reason you haven't gotten stabbed, mugged or ran over. That seems like a very valid conclusion

I'm curious, how can I prevent people from coming up behind be and stabbing me if I'm not wearing earbuds? Even if I can hear them I won't automatically assume they want to stab me...  and even if I did I'm not sure I could stop them, what with them having a knife...

This should be more about "pay attention to your surroundings" than earbuds in particular imo. They don't block out traffic noise in my experience unless you're playing music at a volume so high that it would be unsafe for your hearing to begin with.

Meganter reacted to Analog in The Black and Purple Goliath ft. Ryzen 3900X, Crosshair VI Extreme, RTX 3080, OCZ memory and EK custom cooling
It has been a long time since the last time I have showed off a build log and in the meantime my rig has been upgraded several times. Still, as it is now in a state that I am quite satisfied with and am not planning on upgrading anything else in the immediate future, I have decided to finally share it with you, the members of the forum.

As I am certain there might be questions why I have purchased a particular part over another, please do keep in mind the build actually started this time last year, meaning February 2020 and was completed in early November 2020 when I finally managed to get an RTX 3080. This is the reason why I don't have a Ryzen 5000 processor.

    Latest specs:
    - Processor: AMD Ryzen 9 3900X overclocked to 4.3GHz
    - Cooling: 1x EK 360mm radiator, 1x EK 120mm radiator, EK Velocity CPU block, XSPC Photon 270 V2 pump/res combo unit, various EK fittings and 13mm flexible tubing
    - Graphics Card: EVGA RTX 3080 XC3
    - Motherboard: Asus Crosshair VI Extreme X370
    - RAM: 16GB (4x4GB Apacer 2666MHz) overclocked to 3933MHz CL20 and cooler with OCZ Reaper HPC Heatsinks
    - Power Supply: Corsair RM1000i
    - Case: Cooler Master Cosmos C700P Black Edition

February 2020, the motherboard in my last rig (ASRock X99m) stopped recognizing all of the memory dimm slots. Instead of buying another X99 board, I decided to simply build a new rig and sell off whatever parts I got left from the old one. Orders were made and parts started to arrive a week later and the assembly begins.

By the end of February all parts had arrived, including the vertical GPU bracket from Phanteks and at that point the rig was complete and functional. Yet, the case was so big and with so much potential that I wasn't completely happy with the end result. Even with the E-ATX Crosshair VI Extreme it still looked quite empty and sad. At that point I was thinking of swapping the small 120mm Arctic Liquid Freezer, which I had leftover from my previous build for a 360mm AIO. Not only would that have looked a ton better, but it would allow me to overclock the 3900X to the fullest. I was looking at the Arctic Liquid Freezer 360mm, but as at that time the human malware had proliferated all over the place and shipments were halted it was out of stock. The prices of other components were also getting higher, due to the rising demand and at the same time scarcity. At that point I was doing some math and thought it was no longer going to be that much cheaper getting and AIO instead of a customer loop, which turned out not to be the case...

July 2020, decided to go ahead and get liquid cooling gear, but again, due to the human malware even that was easier said than done. None of my local retailers had what I wanted / needed in stock. Therefore, I decided to purchase everything from the manufacturer directly, in this case I ended up going with EK. They had free shipping on orders over a certain amount, had what I needed and were guaranteeing delivery in less than 5 business days. The pump/res combo from XSPC I got from a local classifieds site, was never used, still in original packaging and was dirt cheap. While browsing in that site, I also found new in box steering wheel  and pedal set from Logitech and got that as well. I was stuck working from home anyway so wanted to have something to keep me busy and entertained.

November 2020, I finally managed to get an RTX 3080. The EVGA XC3 wasn't my first choice but was very close to MSRP and I got the new Call of Duty game as a bundle. That was also the month I got interested in memory overclocking so I got some cheap Apacer sticks 4x4GB with standard 2666MHz and also bough some cheap used OCZ DDR2 RAM with the nice Reaper HPC heatsinks, which were designed to handle about 2.1V. I harvested the heatsinks from the DDR2 and put them on the new memory which was a bare pcb only.

This is how my rig looks now. I don't have nay plans for immediate improvements on it. Thanks for taking the time to check it out!

As a new user to this forum I'll make my first post count by starting a build log thread for my Formd T1 build. The pandemic is making this build a lot more difficult than I initially anticipated, so I'll be taking my sweet time for this specific build.  After a long wait I've finally received my T1 on the last day of 2020. I've opted for the black colorway and truth be told, I'm already regretting my decision not getting a silver one. But hey, maybe for the V2 of this case which is now in the making I'll go for a silver version.

I just completed building a NR200P for my younger brother and have to say I'm a bit nervous building in a case thats more than twice as small. My old system, before it was running on a motherboard box, was installed in a Ncase M1 so I have experience with SFF and ITX, but the T1 is really pushing the limits.

Like I said, the pandemic is not helping with getting this build done, which means it's going to be a Frankenstein kinda build until its done. I'll list the parts which I've currently have at my disposal and what it needs te become in the near future.

PSU: Corsair SF750 or EVGA Supernova 650 GM Storage 1: Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1TB Storage 2: Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1TB Hope you guys will enjoy the build log and I'll try to keep updating the thread as much as I can.

    Case
Haven't started building yet, but I've just opened the box of the T1 and I have to say it looks gorgeous. Build quality really looks A+, but I still need to double check all parts to make sure mine does not have any Q&A issues. Thank god there are some YT vids out there on how to build this case since nothing is included with this case.

    Parts
Currently I've got some parts laying around and I ran my old setup on my motherboard box because I sold my Ncase M1. The MSI 3060TI Ventus 2X feels solid and it's a beefier card than I originally anticipated. I was expecting a dual slot GPU with a single 8 pin power connector, but it's thicker than 2 slots and has two 8 pin power connectors. The EK AIO is pretty AF and I'm not sure if I'm even going to use the RGB on it.

So I have a little warning for all of you guys looking at these:

I recently bought them for my rig, and I ran them on 2 RTX 2080 GPU's. They do look awesome, and they clean up the cables real nice.

So I put my PC on standby and go to my parents in law for Christmas. About 2 hours later I get a call. The apartment is on fire!

Basically what happened, the PC went out of sleep because a cat probably jumped on the desk or moved the mouse around a bit. The PC booted and idled for a little while.
Then the bottom 8 pin adapter either shorted, or got so hot that the foam on the back caught fire.
Lo and behold, a couple minutes later the entire PC is an inferno.

The neighbors notice, and thankfully manage to put out the fire with a powder extinguisher. Sadly the powder also destroyed all my network and server equipment in my rack. As well as all my peripherals and custom keyboards.

The fire department managed to confirm the fire started in the bottom adapter. It's also almost completely gone, while the other 3 are still somewhat intact.

    Be careful people!

    The Drop + Matt3o /dev/tty MT3 Keycap Set came in today! 😁

    Drop + Matt3o /dev/tty MT3 Keycap Set (Bleached)
Edited Super sexy touches by @Den-Fi's sensual fingers.

What makes MT3 profile keycaps a tad special?
High-Profile Keycaps: Keycap height is significantly taller compared to keycaps in OEM profile (and Cherry profile, of course). Concave Surface: Indent starts from the four outer edges and curves softly towards the middle of the keycap. Rounded Corners: Gentle and finger-friendly, lends the keycap an almost cute appearance? Hmm... A  comparison graphic might provide a better description than I could with plain o' words:

    Other Appreciated Details:
Blank Keycaps: Love 'em. IDK how else to explain it other than . On the plus side, I never have to worry about wearing down legends. As a rule, I will only ever spend money on blank keycaps. Wallet needs a break, okay?! 😂 PBT Material: Smoother and softer(?) surface feel compared to the EnjoyPBT Blank Black keycaps (also PBT) I'm used to. But, PBT should be PBT... right? Starting to wonder whether the keycap profile is giving me some odd placebo effect. 🤔 In-Stock: Arguably one of the most important factors for any buy, even more so for Drop products with dumbo shipping ETAs. If it's not in-stock or will not be fulfilled within a reasonable time, my interest wanes. Unless it's a stupid specific thing that isn't readily available, in which case my irrationality wages a long and terrible internal war against my sometimes-sensible brain and heeelp.
    Things... That... Uh... [Anguished Noises]:
Blank Modifier Keycaps: Trying to differentiate R2 from R3 blank keycaps took me... longer than I would've liked. Cue me squinting at pics from Drop's product page, at pics from Keycaps.io, and at the physical keycap held up to the light at specific angles.

    Eighty #391 - A Closer Look #2
Notice the home row keys -- specifically the F and J keys. There's no visible difference or distinct tactile bump between the F/J keys and the other alphabetical keys.
In terms of feeling, the F/J keys are ever-so-slightly more concave compared to the others.

    Eighty #391 - A Closer Look #2
The astute might notice an very, very marginal difference in keycap height in the home row here.

Sound Sample: Modded Ink Black (150g) Switches + /dev/tty MT3 Keycaps

    Eighty #391 - MT3 Keycap Set.mp4 Hmmm...
I miiight prefer the sound of the EnjoyPBT Blanks more...? Spacebar sound is particularly irritating, IMO. 🤔

    Okay, BIG BUT. ()

Truth be told, I planned to use these keycaps with another board. The other parts for the other board hadn't arrived, however (probably won't arrive until late next month, TBH), aaand I couldn't keep my eager hands off the keycaps.

From the start, the Eighty #391 plus the /dev/tty MT3 keycap set was meant to be a temporary arrangement. Like a frisky one-night stand -- a new experience for that fresh and reinvigorating feeling, but not something that's meant to last. Sometimes a memory is made all the more sweeter simply because it won't be revisited ever again, no? After this fun little romp with some shades of gray, it'll be back to good o' black for my daily driver. 😁

...Very hungry for a black and dark gray version of this blank keycap set.
