As a new user to this forum I'll make my first post count by starting a build log thread for my Formd T1 build. The pandemic is making this build a lot more difficult than I initially anticipated, so I'll be taking my sweet time for this specific build.  After a long wait I've finally received my T1 on the last day of 2020. I've opted for the black colorway and truth be told, I'm already regretting my decision not getting a silver one. But hey, maybe for the V2 of this case which is now in the making I'll go for a silver version.

I just completed building a NR200P for my younger brother and have to say I'm a bit nervous building in a case thats more than twice as small. My old system, before it was running on a motherboard box, was installed in a Ncase M1 so I have experience with SFF and ITX, but the T1 is really pushing the limits.

Like I said, the pandemic is not helping with getting this build done, which means it's going to be a Frankenstein kinda build until its done. I'll list the parts which I've currently have at my disposal and what it needs te become in the near future.

Current:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 2700
  • CPU Cooler: Noctua C12P
  • CPU Cooler fans: Noctua NF-A12x25
  • Motherboard: Asus ROG STRIX B450-I Gaming
  • RAM: Corsair Vengeance 32 GB (2x16 3000 Mhz C16)
  • GPU: MSI RTX 3060TI Ventus 2X
  • PSU: Corsair AX1200 (lol, almost as big as the case)
  • Storage 1: Samsung 960 Evo 256 GB
  • Storage 2: Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1TB

Final:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5xxx
  • CPU Cooler: EK-AIO 240 D-RGB
  • CPU Cooler fans: Noctua NF-A12x25 + 2x Noctua NF-A12x15
  • Motherboard: Gigabyte B550I AORUS PRO AX
  • RAM: Corsair Vengeance 32 GB (2x16 3000 Mhz C16)
  • GPU: RTX 3080 (I've got a preorder on an Asus 3080 TUF since launch...)
  • PSU: Corsair SF750 or EVGA Supernova 650 GM
  • Storage 1: Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1TB
  • Storage 2: Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1TB

Hope you guys will enjoy the build log and I'll try to keep updating the thread as much as I can.

Case

Haven't started building yet, but I've just opened the box of the T1 and I have to say it looks gorgeous. Build quality really looks A+, but I still need to double check all parts to make sure mine does not have any Q&A issues. Thank god there are some YT vids out there on how to build this case since nothing is included with this case.

Parts

Currently I've got some parts laying around and I ran my old setup on my motherboard box because I sold my Ncase M1. The MSI 3060TI Ventus 2X feels solid and it's a beefier card than I originally anticipated. I was expecting a dual slot GPU with a single 8 pin power connector, but it's thicker than 2 slots and has two 8 pin power connectors. The EK AIO is pretty AF and I'm not sure if I'm even going to use the RGB on it.

This looks awesome. I'm a huge SFF fan now that I switched to an NR200 for my personal build. The T1 is my favorite case, just a bit pricy and hard to find lol. I'll be following this thread, I'm looking forward to seeing this build develop.

Haha I also had to use my ATX PSU externally for a while, the SF750 was quite hard to find

I really love this case and would so want to make a build in it, but I have no use for it :( Too small for home PC, too big and heavy for a travel build

I have to say it was quite some fun to build in the NR200. I've been seeing this case more and more on reddit and other SFF forums and I understand why this case is so popular, especially all the extra's and options for just 100$.

Still having a really hard time getting a decent SFX PSU, but I have good hopes this PSU will be in stock this month at least again.

The size is perfect for a home PC :P I have to say I would still like a DAN A4, or maybe something even smaller to juist play around with. However, having the case in hand now, it looks even smaller than how it usually looks on pictures online.

My home PC has a 4-slot GPU and 2 16TB 3.5" drives, hard to fit that in there :(

Yeah I'll bet it will be (at least on Amazon). I'd recommend joining a stock tracking discord like the one owned by Average Tech Reviews, that's how I managed to get I mine.

Is the Aorus Master? I think the NR200 can fit a "4-slot" GPU as long as it only uses 3 physical expansion slots. I'm not 100% sure though

Aorus extreme, and yes it does actually take a little more than 4 full slots... it's really overkill 🤣

Update 10th Jan 2021

Picked up my old and first self build PC (Silverstone FT02 Fortress - man that thing is massive) so I could take out the 1200 Watt Power supply. The different between this old E-ATX case and ITX form factor is insane. Interesting how I went from as big as I could to something as small as the T1. The motherboard box now made room for a PSU and I have to say I like how it looks.

Before I was going to install all the components, install the AOI etc, into the T1 I decided to completely build the case without components first. Initially to get a hang of how this case is built and how to install components - and if my T1 has any quality issues. What I learned is that it's going to be a fun challenge installing all the parts and that my T1 unfortunately has some quality issues.

  1. The GPU riser strut has a dead screw hole. I can still mount it, but it's not as sturdy and fixed as I would like it to be.
  2. The side panels don't fit. Either there is something wrong with the overal construction of the frame which is causing the top of the case to be smaller in width than the bottom, or there is something wrong with the panels. I hope for the latter, but I think it's the frame of the case. Super frustrating since it really comes down to 1mm which is causing the side panels not to fit. For the pictures sake I've reassembled the case the make sure there is as much room as possible for the panels to fit, without forcing it too much.

A bit of a setback, but I'll contact support to see how we can get this fixed. For the meantime this is not stopping me from continuing, and I love how the case also looks without side panels. It's all about the nice hardware which is in the case anyway.

Next up

Some good news is that I've managed to order a f*cking unicorn these days, which is the Corsair SF750 power supply. Should be arriving next week and then I'll also start testing all components outside the case first. If there are no issues with all the components, I'm going to start installing all the components!
