bondoao1 got a reaction from Origami Cactus in is it possible in some way to make a quick legal contract to lend money?
From experience of a family member who won a small claims court ruling, the losing party blatantly said they were not going to pay and there was no way for my family member to collect without spending more money.
That is why my suggestion is that if you decide you want to lend someone money, don't count on getting it back.
I have found that there is usually a reason a "friend" will ask another friend for a loan, and it is typically that they have burned every other bridge.

What fun is the forum otherwise. In reality though, legal questions are never simple. The answer will pretty much always be "it depends" and you should go to a local attorney or something that is a government or legal (advice) office if you want a real answer.

I think what that quote is saying is specifically that the Court itself does not collect the money, therefore, it's not so much that they can "refuse" the court order to pay, but rather - what are the consequences for not paying? If the court won't force collection for you, and the loanee isn't paying, there's not too much you can do.

You could always farm it out to a collections agency, but I imagine that you won't get much of a return on that.

I skipped reading comments so I don't know if this was covered.
This info is dependent on where you live.
Here in So. Cal. USA, this is how things work.

Yes you can do a contract for a personal loan from private party to private party.
If there is an issue of no payment, and the amount owed is $10,000 or less the only legal option available is Small Claims Court.

In order to sue someone in SCC, first a clerks fee must be paid (between $30-$75).
Once court preceding's have occurred, the filing party has to pay a judgment fee dependent on how much the judgement was for.
the looser is allowed to file an appeal should they desire.

Should you take someone to small claims court, and you win say a $1000 judgment, there is no real way for you to collect your money if the person doesn't want to pay. Even the court system tells you this.

From the California small claims court website:
"The court will not collect the money for you. But the court will issue the orders and other documents you may need to collect your judgment from the debtor (the party that owes you money). Keep in mind that not all judgments are collectable because the debtor may not have any income or property of value."

In other words now you are out even more money since you had to pay the court fees on top of the money you lent and did not get back, so my advise is to not lend money unless you plan on not getting it back.

You may need to reinstall Windows 10 or 11 with the drive in the XPS. I know it's not what you want to do.

I transferred my data and OS from an SATA to an M2 and upgraded from Windows 7, 8, 10, and 11 over the same installation. The boot managers were not compatible and CSM was causing issues for me on my Haswell system.

All my troubles went away after a clean install on my system and CSM disabled. I doubt the XPS gives you an option to disable CSM. Based on the 8700k era, the mobo might not even support CSM, and that's likely what was making your Haswell system work.

Sorry man. Luckily thumb drives are cheap now for storing your data.

bondoao1 reacted to GhostRoadieBL in Elon Musk Twitter deal on hold because he wants to verify "spam" accounts number, is that reasonable?
This is actually where conditionals and clauses come in, not to go too far down the rabbit hole you can have an accepted bid on a house (or company) conditional to a clear house inspection (or financial assessment of profitability). This means both parties agreed and signed the contract for the deal to go through, it just has those final clauses to be cleared before money comes out of a neutral party holding.
Exactly the same with business deals, I've worked on a few post signature deal packages once the client agrees to go ahead we had to clear out any clauses on the deal and ended up using some of the payment which was still held to fund certain equipment purchases necessary to go ahead with the contract. (that was one of the clauses, to have specific equipment on hand prior to completing the contract)

The money for Twitter is based on a bank stating they back the transfer of funds and since we're assuming the contract was signed (besides the misinformation of the media who I guarantee have zero clue if a contract even appeared before the board, not like there's reporters allowed in the board meetings) assuming a contract was presented, there will be clauses for everything from Twitter's profitability, open financial assessments, current asset holdings, leans, future investment strategies and full dossiers on each advertising company twitter has ever used and at least 20 pages more of legalese to determine exactly what Musk's buying. Twitter will also have clauses for board members, staff positions, benefits and company image retention, and most importantly proof of payment being held by a third party with asset leans for non-payment.
Musk bet the farm on this one, if he can get out of it, it won't be because he decided or found out he can't afford it. Doesn't work that way after the 7 figure contract point. Again assuming a signed contract, Musk would be forced to sell everything to cover the payment to twitter by the third party currently holding the stock and assets required for the purchase.

Yes, it sounds fun working on what you dream about. It gets old quick though. Classic point is mechanics in general. Almost none of us work on our own stuff anymore. We do it for x number of hours a day x number of days a week. We don't want to use "us" time on that. That just feels like working. At home. For free.

only a government official could think cutting a section off the top of a rug and sewing it to the bottom of the same rug will make a longer rug.

Its about time and i hope it passes, DST is a useless thing that is not necessary in a modern society of today. And the accidents and heart attacks that happen every year on the change day are a stupid problem to have.

And in case anybody is wondering if why we are trying to keep it on DST forever instead of off forever its because if you look at the chart of sunlight to hours of the day, having DST on forever is a better utilization of daylight overall.

It's definitely a cool computer and an i7 should still be a decent enough CPU, but back in the day mobile GPUs were never very good and they really haven't aged well.
If you get it good and cleaned out and temper your expectations it'll be usable for some games.
It really wouldn't compare to modern gaming laptops, but it'll still be better than Integrated graphics.

It's a high end laptop, but it's still an old laptop. Having a Core i7 is better than something like a C2Q, but how decent it'll be all depends on what CPU and GPU combination it has.
