The forum sentiment is often to err on the side of caution and to promote good PSUs, but honestly I have put together many $300 PCs with inexpensive used power supplies that I have gotten in bulk parts deals, and not one has ever come back to me with issues.

I wouldn't run a new $300+ GPU on this. But given the budget and the likely performance, I would personally use it until I was ready to upgrade to a GPU.

Have you ever heard of a brand named GALAX?
    It's the same brand.
They sell their stock in Europe as KFA2
And as GALAX in the rest of the world

You could build a lot more for your budget!
Why not the best of both worlds?

The 12400f cannot overclock so there is no point. Also keep in mind that todays cpus barely gain anythinf from overclocking because they are already running at almost 100% of their capabilities out of the box.

Overclocking is not something you do when you have a small budget or want a good bit extra performance anymore. Its when you want to see how much extra couple % performance you can get out of your chip in any way you can. But rarely do you get even a 5% performance boost usually 2%

Nonono I'd never go previous generation. I'm not sure why but that persons lists never have any context of the build. Stick with the 12400f, it will definitely perfrom better than a 10400f

upgrade path is a meme.  no one should be upgrading CPUs often enough to reuse a socket.  By the time a 5600 would  be too slow for gaming, LGA 1700 is gonna be gone on the intel side, too.  And performance identical.  We're talking a 1-2% differences at 1080p.  No one buys new systems for 1080p anymore, and at 1440p 5 year old CPUs are still fast enough. to put the bottleneck on the GPU.  Just go with the best value at the moment, they're both incredibly fast, so you're gonna want to have the most budget possible for a GPU, and NOT one with dinky ass cooler like the fighter.

I wouldn't buy a single RAM stick for Zen+ CPU. It needs dual channel.
    Here's a dual channel kit:

The 2600 at that price is good value.
As for the GPU the RX 570/580 are solid, GTX960/970/1050(ti)/1060 series are all approximate in performance if you can find a better price between any of those units.

I run the Alpenfön Blackridge v2. But I run it with a single 120mm Noctua nf a12x15 fan. This is the only Fan spinning in idle. GPU fans are off in idle and PSU as well.
Sometimes after decent cpu/gpu loads (f1 for example) the coil whine is completely gone. But it usually comes again after the next restart.

Basically for a gaming PC, the GPU is going to be the main star of the show.
Getting the best GPU you can for your build at your budget is generally the thing to do on a gaming PC, and since NVENC (nVidia) exists, unless you want to record your gameplay in UHD or something, then GPU is more important than CPU for streaming also.
I generally agree. I'd personally be going for a 3070 in this budget range.

Don't buy parts slowly. Either buy it all at once, or wait. Buying piece by piece is just going to get you an outdated system, and possibly DOA components that you can't return.

Not sure what you mean by gigantic, 240mm isn't that bad, and if he wants the AIO look that's a pretty average cost AIO.
Agreed on the fans and card though, unneeded. Though it sounds like he won't have the money to build for a while, so really, the 3000 series isn't a smart buy anyway.

trevb0t reacted to Levent in What is the max freq of RAM that Zen 1 is compatible with?
Not gonna happen. I would say you would be lucky to get 3200mhz on first gen ryzen. 3200 was possible on Zen+/2XXX, 3800 is possible on Zen2/3XXX, I am not sure how much Zen3 can handle. Try overclocking instead of wasting money on rams, hate to say it but ryzen dram calculator gives you a somewhat easy entry into ram overclocking. That being said, you can overclock better than what ryzen dram calculator claims you can.

trevb0t reacted to Zando_ in What is the max freq of RAM that Zen 1 is compatible with?
2933Mhz. With a well binned chip and specifically selected RAM kits IIRC higher was possible. But for almost everyone the reasonable max was 2933Mhz. So usually a 3000MHz kit with decent timings, set it to 2933 in the BIOS, speed isn't far enough off 3000 to bother the XMP timings and sub-timings.

trevb0t reacted to jaslion in What is my PC lacking? Or just poorly optimised?
A first step would be to not put things on ultra. This is because ultra settings are meant to be extremely taxing but return very little in terms of visual improvements if any.

Secondly the game does seem to have comments about running poorly on good systems so optimization issues most likely.

BF2042 is badly optimized on basicaly any platform no worries. Back for blood similar issues.

However there is one giveaway here with black mesa. It's a game that pushes the og source engine quite badly but tends to run pretty well. Are you sure your ram is actually in dual channel and what speed is it running at?

"Bottleneck calculators" are bullshit. The 5800X is absolutely not "bottlenecked" by the 6900XT, and nor will the 5800X3D be, although it is better at gaming than the regular 5800X.

That said, I don't recommend the 5800X3D except to people who already have Ryzen systems with worse CPU's and just want the best gaming CPU for AM4 without changing platforms.

Well then I recommend 12400F (or non F, if you can find it for similar price)+B660 and you can bump the GPU all the way to 6750XT or 3060 Ti whichever team you prefer to represent.

Look around your used market for an MSI Titan series. I grabbed one gently used with an 8th Gen i7 and a GTX 1070 for $450 over a year ago.
They have 1060 series that you could certainly pick up around that range.

LoL welcome to the forum @bitpoke, where one wrong build suggestion will have you constantly called out even though everyone can clearly see you've already been corrected not once, not twice but probably 5 or 6 times already

@CashTheOriginal The build @Fasauceome came up with is probably one of the best you can do now (though, just because they moved up to numbering it as the 5000 series, doesn't mean it's 5th gen You don't magically skip the 4th iteration), I'd really wait until Black Friday. It's just around the corner, and you'll be able to fit some better parts in there for the same budget. I also recommend buying a used GPU, like a 1070, 580 etc, and grabbing one of the upcoming new GPUs when they come out. Alternatively, you could off all together like @Brok3n But who cares? suggested, if you have something you're currently using.

the case and PSU are quite terrible, and that's a really vast amount of storage and ram, much more than is needed. You could get a current gen CPU instead, since OP specified 144Hz gaming. Also a newer motherboard to accept 5th gen CPUs once they come out.
