Advice on parts list for new build

Budget (including currency): £1800

Country: United Kingdom

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: CAD rendering, fusion 360, general array of triple A titles.

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

I am stuck between an i5 12600k and 3080 combo and an i7 3070 ti combo, which would yield better esults for CAD work and gaming?

Here is my current parts list. Any advice on improvements / changes is welcomed as this is my first build.

Thanks

Include the permalink, it's just above the CPU on the parts list. That link does not work for us

I would really try to squeeze an i7 12700F and a 3080 in the parts list, the difference between the 12700F and the 12600K is $50 and odds are there's some way to squeeze $50 out of this parts list to get that.

Something like this would fit both of them in there, plus you'll get the 12GB model of the 3080 which should be the best option for this system.

Please make sure you link your build as this leads to nowhere. The correct link should be at the top of the page.

As per Autocad, 32gigs of ram seem to be recommended but you might need more depending on what you're doing and it's single core performance from a quick search  on Google. Intel usually has better single core perfromance in their 12gen as well as upgradibility so that's not a bad idea

You could build a lot more for your budget!

Why not the best of both worlds?

Really depends on the actual software you are running.

You say "CAD rendering". What does that mean? Vray? Blender? SketchUp? Lumion?

- In general rendering software relies heavily on CPU and multicore, so I would get an i7 or even an i9 12900K.

- Fusion 3D relies only on CPU

- Some rendering software uses the GPU, like Lumion. Vray can as well I think. But most don't.

- For general CAD work, most gaming GPU's are super overkill. To just display a 3d model on screen, you can use any dedicated GPU from the last 5 years.

For gaming obiously you'd want the best GPU you can afford. But depending on resolution and refresh rate, a 3080 might also be overkill if you are targetting 1080p/ 60Hz for example.

According to Puget system's benchmark, the 12900K is 15% faster than the 12700K in V-ray CPU render. Whether or not that is worth the extra cost for you probably depends on whether this is a machine you use professionally, time is money, or just as a student or spare time...

I would skew towards getting the better CPU and getting a 3070Ti. Again, depends on your priorities for this machine where you should spend the money.

  • If it is mostly a work machine: 12900K + 3070Ti.
  • If it is mostly a gaming machine: 12700K + 3080.

Either config will do either task well enough.

Brands dont even matter, as long as it works fine then who cares? ive only seen KFA from old used gpus so apparently seems like they were big at some point in the past but now theyre just an obscure brand

Btw i use some dazumba 450w from 11 years ago (360w due to 12v rail having 30a) and still works flawlessly for my 775 and x58 oc shenanigans, apparently its some obscure indonesian brand or something like that cause the website is in indonesian

Have you ever heard of a brand named GALAX?

It's the same brand.
They sell their stock in Europe as KFA2
And as GALAX in the rest of the world

360 AIO and a Z series MOBO for a CPU that doesn't overclock?

Op likes the aesthetics of an aio it seems, if it wasnt for that then theres the macho rev b at 39£

Also z690 tends to have better i/o compared to b660, though there is the b660m-a wifi for 90£ or tuf b660 plus wifi at 137£ if op wanna cheap out on that too

Galax/KFA are an established and quite large brand, but they primarily sell in Europe and Asia.

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.
