dont bother. that is such a minor upgrade to be spending money on. save up to 2080 or Radeon 7. but even then the 1070ti is still good.

In any case, this is fairly worrying. Lots of people use lastpass, and I think they even sporsored LTT quite a few times.

It's not a big deal. My cat also likes to sit on my case sometimes and I don't even have installed filters on the top and still I can't see his fur inside my case whenever I clean it. So don't worry, you'll be safe

The Morpheus heatsink is also a good choice, but the Arctic cooler is going to be better since it has more fan space and heatsink size. I'm pretty sure the card will fit with the cooler, but if you're not sure, Arctic will probably have more information on their own website. As for temps, I don't know an exact number but it'll be much better than what you have now (the accelero is huge and has 3 fans, how could it not be good).

Voltage difference most likely  (110/120V vs 210/220/240V) and the device is either protecting itself from overvolting or it's fried from overvolting.
Just buy one from a European (Amazon) store, i.e. ones that are built for Europe's power network.

J.b091 reacted to Kleine IJsbeer in Question regarding different types of power system
It's not just the plug that is different indeed, there's different voltages as well. For most 'advanced' appliances like pc's the power supply is built to handle either voltage but it might be your heating pad doesn't adapt to the difference and 'expects' the US voltage while it gets a european voltage which is too high compared to the US standard. I'm just guessing as I have no experience with this whatsoever but it might be overvoltage protection or so blocking the device from working?

TCL brand is your answer most likely, watch the LTT video on it. Here is what you do. Unpack your brand new TV. Throw away the remote that came with it and buy a cheap universal remote. Your smart TV is now a dumb TV.

Hint: You're not going to get a decent display without smart features unless you get a projector.

    Why does that even matter?
If you're connecting the tv to a separate device you never have to access this "roku OS" or whatever, the tv acts as a regular monitor.
If you don't touch the smart features then they're basically not there.

J.b091 reacted to mariushm in Is HDR and 10 bit same thing?
Videos with HDR would look a bit washed out, or with weird colors on your pc.
Videos that are 10bit but without HDR would probably look ok, as the movie player will dither the 10bit down to 8 bit.
With Media Player Classic Home Cinema, you could look at properties of a file and see if it's VP9 Profile 2 ... that's most likely HDR

    There's a few examples here: ftp://helpedia.com/pub/multimedia/testvideos/

    Try from there:

    Life_of_ Pi_draft_Ultra-HD_HDR.mp4
    Sony_4K_HDR_Camp.mp4
    The Redwoods 4k 24fps (VP9 Profile 2 HDR).mkv
    The World in HDR 4k 59.94 fps (VP9 Profile 2 HDR).mkv

There's multiple  versions of HDR  ... like HDR Basic, Advanced, Pro ...
You can have HDR with LCD monitors and LCD TVs with LED backlight, but you need more powerful leds (brighter) and you need more complex circuitry to have "zones" of backlight  - basically you divide the rectangle of your monitor in squares and you need to be able to control the brightness of each square separately, and the leds can be so bright that you can't really have all squares lit to the maximum, the monitor needs circuitry to keep track of how many squares are at maximum brightness and stuff like that.
The most basic HDR is a crappy kind of HDR, you can barely call it that.

For proper HDR you need some amount of brightness like let's say 1000 something (some value, candela per meter I think ) but the minimum HDR "level" requires only 400 of that... and the cheaper ones have fewer "zones", the viewing rectangle is divided in larger squares so you have less granularity and all that...

Ah... here's the Vesa DisplayHDR standard (which isn't the only one standard out there when it comes to HDR) : https://displayhdr.org/performance-criteria/

J.b091 reacted to mariushm in Is HDR and 10 bit same thing?
You can have 10 bit with and without HDR.
To have a good HDR, you need to have a monitor with a powerful backlight or something using OLED, because the extra colors the HDR (high dynamic range) brings can not be reproduced correctly with the amount of brightness in regular monitors (regular monitors can't produce enough shades of a color to get HDR well)

10bit videos can be produced using 8 bit per color original content, because it helps with preserving more video quality during compression, you get less rounding/approximation errors when calculating how objects move from frame to frame, so you can compress motion and other things better and with more quality.

Even the old H264 supported 10bit per color, and even 12bit and 14bit (used for medical stuff like xrays for example) but because hardware decoders on video cards supported only 8bit, it didn't gain much popularity.
HEVC (and VP9) supports 10bit by default and all hardware decoders support it, because it's important for HDR and blurays and other things.

Respect. Most people are so careless they post it anyway. That's just careless idiocy that never even crosses minds of some people. Even if I had Facebook, I wouldn't want to be uploaded or even tagged by name. Same goes the other way. I never ever post anyone else anywhere unless they explicitly want that.

It's never a good idea to migrate OS, fresh install is the best option. You tend to get problems with applications and hardware settings when you migrate OS.

Eh, Edge's engine was crap anyways, I don't care how shady things went that led to its death. Took too long to implement web standards, which is something quite annoying for us web devs, and why tools like Babel exist that adopt standard code to work with these kinds of browsers.

J.b091 reacted to givingtnt in Microsoft developer blames Google for the switch to Chromium engine in the next version of Windows 10
tbh, regardless of how the change was done. moving away from IE and Edge is very much a good thing.

there's so many little things that they both can't do that Firefox & Chrome can because they won't update themselves and follow up on tech peing pushed by FF and Google
(For example, CSS Grids, witch is basically unsuported completly on Edge & Explorer, even though they both started the tech. but never updated it like FF and Google)

so like, having one less drag as a web dev is veeeryyy good.
(though there's still safari.. but that's apple and I doubt they'd budge that easely..)

And they claim that google has a monopoly.. but like. their browser support is terrible.
They're basically being lazy and shouting at Google, trying to blame them.

J.b091 reacted to FlappyBoobs in Why some Google apps in playstore aren't available for me (my country), while some are?
The google apps are "made by google" but the team that does the actual dev work could be anywhere (google has offices in most major countries). One of the issues that you may be facing is that the google license agreement with device manufacturers now (i think it's now, they certainly talked about doing it) states that they have to pay for the google apps to be pre installed if the device is sold in Europe, so potentially google has started to make it difficult for people to install their apps in Europe to avoid manufacturers from just providing base android with no apps and getting the end user to install them from the store for free (avoiding the fuck you EU tax).

Hopefully they will just add it to your country and you'll be golden.
