Googled “use sdr for gsm” and found this:
I think what Linus is more referring to isn’t extending a gsm network, it’s creating your own for the purposes of testing/experimentation (like if you were building an rf chamber?)

Kasper_MC reacted to mack_50cal in BLACK SCREEN GPU FANS AT FULL SPEED CRASH [FIXED]
I FIGURED IT OUT!!! I have been dealing with this for over 9 months with a BRAND NEW system I built following all of Linus Tech Tips videos. The system would just randomly crash from loading a game, all the way to being in the middle of a game and it crashes. I wasn't even playing graphically intensive games either! I had heard that it could be GPU, CPU, Motherboard, PSU, ... etc. I double checked everything in my PC... and I mean everything. I was 100% sure the GPU was fried and it was too late to return it. I had to swallow the pill of buying a new card in the middle of this bitcoin crap at the super high prices! It was about 2am my time and I was going to order the new card the next day when I decided to look for a fix. One. Last. Time. I found a very old thread, link below, that a guy was having the same issues. He did the exact same things I did and then some. He finally resorted to pulling the graphics card and taking apart and looking at it to see if there was anything noticeable. That's where the problem was!!!! The CHEAP way some of these cards are made, was causing this issue. More specifically, there was little to no thermal compound on the actual GPU, it was all on the board on the side of it. He cleaned it off, put it back together, and ..... Viola!! It ran fine! I did the same thing, also with the help of some of Linus' videos, and it fixed mine as well!! Just to note I'm running a Red Devil Radeon RX 480, so this is not a cheap card but also not a super high end card either. Hope this helps somebody save a little bit of money and not throw out their card when its just poor assembly. All credit goes to the guy that started the post in the link, without him I would not have figured it out.

It could be due to too much voltage being asked for, or too many amps. I can't fully say, I would expect it to pass P95, but if you can pass 24 hours of auda64 with all the CPU and RAM options (the default options) and 24 hours of aida FPU only, and the full 8 hours of asus real bench, I would have confidence in the CPU being fine

Have you tried taking tweezers to the little protution block on the old HDD? From the 3rd last picture here, it looks like it comes off, maybe you can port it over to the SSD and use the laptops interface still? Hope that makes sense!

Thanks for the responses - double biosflash did the trick, first to the oldest and then to the newest version for the 780

Now I'm just waiting for the CPU upgrade for the little machine that could... Hopefully that will go less painfully

    Again, thanks for the help!

The two modules have matching speeds.
Yeah, the second one might be a stupid question, but I mainly asked because of the different "ranks". I don't know what that means or whether it matters or not.

    Thanks for the quick answer!

Upgrading RAM in a laptop can be a much harder job because of the sparse BIOS.  I'd do everything you can to find a matching stick to what is already in there.  Open it up and see if there are identifying stickers or other markings.  And while more capacity alone is nice -- two sticks is gonna give you dual channel performance so I'd really try to match the stick you already have to add to it.

The bios update seems to have done it. Memtest86 showed 0 errors in 4 passes of full tests, with XMP. One day when I have a little more patience, I'm gonna try to bench against what I can get stable with Ryzen calc, just to see the improvements. I'll let you guys know if I ever get around to it.

Thanks for all the help and comments

Just go to Amd's site and download the latest one to make sure you won't hurt anything by doing that.

If this doesn't work, disable XMP and manually overclock your RAM as high as you can go testing with memtest86+ for stability.

The second screen that isn't playing the game. If you are watching videos at the same time and encounter stuttering just need to ensure that your GPU usage is <100%. Even like 1-2% headroom should be enough to drive a video on the second monitor.

^^^ I haven't really had any workloads that push the GPU to 100% max anyway. Maybe if you're rendering something it'll push that hard, but I've still watched YouTube with blender rendering out stuff in the background just fine. Streamers run dual/triple monitor setups all the time too, running their twitch page, the actual game, and their stream software with no issues. Some specific games will be funky if you run youtube in the background (I forget the ones, I've had some games stutter when I do that), but usually it's fine.
