Karones reacted to Johanness in What's with Linus' hate for Motion Blur?
I think you haven't understood what @Karones is trying to say. The problem is that the game dosn't know if I'm tracking the object with my eyes. Note that I may track any object on the screen. If the game wants to ensure that it doesn't blur anything that I'm tracking, the only option is to not blur anything on the screen, effectively disabling motion blur.

In my experiance, I have problems with motion blur when I haven't been exposed to it for a while. When I watch any movie or series (after not watching something for some weeks), it often "hurts" my eyes because I try to track moving objects on the screen. I usually have to close my eyes multiple times for that reason. After about 30 minutes, I'm used to the motion plur and stop tracking moving objects. The same happens to me when I enable motion blur in games.

if I do it quickly right in front of my face, yeah, it's blurry, but that's not all motion blur does in games. Stretch your arm in front of you and move it side to side while looking at it, you can see all the details, your eyes follow the moving object, but in games, it blurs every single moving thing, even if you're looking at it. Same thing if someone is running on the other side of the street, you should have no problem focusing on said person while artificial motion blur would make it look terrible.

microsoft choose to limit dx 12 to win 10 that meant it took more time for dx12 to make sense as a primary api, add the fact that win 10 came out horrible, with less user control, telemetry, less error checking before realease, etc, and its obvious why its taking so long.
maybe if microsoft was trust worthy more people would upgrade to win 10.
the best scenario here would be people supporting vulkan since it works on all Os and is just as modern.

Epic is trash.  Protonmail is one of the better security, encryption, and privacy e-mail companies.
Unfortunately, this isn't the first time something like this has happened against protonmail, since they won't hand over (or sell) their user data to other companies.

I also know GMail was used several times for scams. I guess we should just ban entire gmail.com then? That's not how things are done in a sane world. And people have this idea that ProtonMail just doesn't care. They do assist authorities within their power and within capabilities, given it's encrypted service (metadata however isn't and they can still see certain things). They just don't have an insight into mailboxes the way Google has with GMail. They can basically read ANY e-mail letter by letter if they decide to. It's why people go to ProtonMail, because they don't like that weird definition of "privacy" Google has (They are not suppose to read your mail, but they can)...

Karones reacted to RejZoR in Epic Games Store banned entire ProtonMail e-mail domain
It has recently come to my attention that Epic Games Store is yet again doing another major screw up with very questionable motives and decisions. This time around by banning ENTIRE e-mail service domain pretty much "coz reasons". Specifically ProtonMail's domain "protonmail.com". So, if you have a ProtonMail e-mail address, you cannot use it to create account at Epic Games Store anymore. Neither you can change your existing e-mail to ProtonMail one. If you already have ProtonMail address used from some time ago, they will let you keep it. Which further proves the absurdity of their decision...

Epic's response to user inquiry on the situation:

Upon further inquiry, user got this response:
    And final response from Epic:

Specifically the last response is highly questionable. They claim ProtonMail, the e-mail service with highest levels of encryption, security and privacy that goes magnitudes above anything anyone else offers, somehow doesn't fulfill Epic's "security measures". Yeah sure Epic, you're gonna preach us about security when you just added 2FA to your own service after everyone was outraged of not providing one, where everyone else like Steam, Origin and even ProtonMail had it for ages.

This excuse also doesn't fly if they only do this because somehow free accounts are being abused. Because GMail, Outlook, GMX, one of worlds largest e-mail providers totally do not provide free accounts that can obviously be abused just the same as ProtonMail. Yet Epic is not just banning entire gmail.com, outlook.com or gmx.com domains. I wonder why?

    Original thread on Reddit:

Such behavior needs to be criticized because it's simply unacceptable and shouldn't happen to any e-mail service provider, no matter their size or number of users they have. Banning entire e-mail domain of a service provider just makes them look incompetent and lazy. And another reason they dropped chances of me ever buying anything on their store dead on to zero. Not that it was particularly high before anyways thanks to all the nonsense they've been doing through the past months...

theres no other way to interpret "the App Store has distributed millions of these apps to iOS users. These apps do not offer in-app purchase — and, consequently, have not contributed any revenue to the App Store over the last eight years" except we are doing you a favor for nothing so you should feel grateful. which is completely false since they add value to the iphone itself

Either everyone plays by the same rules or by none of the rules. You can't play exceptions to these things. Hey should just set a $0.01 purchase and then refund it within their own app upon subscribing. Just stick it to Apple for monopolizing the market.

...how is 10% of the world's computers moving to ARM going to bring about the demise of the 90% that don't?

Intel also still owns the server market and has the overwhelming majority of OEM contracts locked down. AMD is still something of an afterthought in the enterprise environment.

We're way, way passed the CISC/RISC discussion. Apple is moving their entire Ecosystem to in-house designs. That's what this is about. ARM parts still have a long ways to go in a Desktop environment.

Karones reacted to Thirdgen89GTA in Apple will announce move to ARM-based Macs later this month, says report
Hardly.  Intel still sells enough through other OEM channels and directly to consumers.

Yes, AMD hit them HARD with the new Ryzens.  And Intel deserved to be hit hard.  They've been stagnant for years because they didn't have any competition.

For years I looked at my old i7-4790k and watched the 6700k, 7700k come out and wondered.  Why upgrade for a few measly percent.

Its only now that AMD hit them hard with the Ryzen that they've finally started actually designing real improvements again.

But they are still a massive company with a huge R&D budget.  They will catch up and come back as king.  Though I never want AMD to go away.  I always want them to be trading punches.  Monopolies are bad.

This is like saying 30% of windows users are at risk of being hacked..... Because they're still using Windows 7. It should be fairly plain to most people that if you're not getting security updates, you're eventually going to be vulnerable to some new attack.

Karones reacted to Sauron in Tesla pause German gigafactory construction after environmentalists protest cutting trees
Who cares if it's "natural" or not? Just because humans planted the trees doesn't mean those trees aren't important to the local wildlife and the environment as a whole. Remember the Team Trees thing? Do you think those trees don't matter just because someone went and planted them?

And Musk is full of shit when he says this will have an overall positive environmental impact - electric cars are not sustainable despite being more energy efficient than their gas counterparts. A factory like this can only have a negative impact, whether that impact is acceptable or not depends on the circumstances but it's certainly not what Musk would have you believe. The only positive impact this would have would be for his pockets. At this point Elon is the CEO of faux environmentalism - the kind of environmentalism that only serves as a selling point or as a popularity boost rather than a call for a much needed systematic change.

Oh, and 92 hectares (or 920000 m^2) aren't a small area. That's almost a million trees being cleared going by the average of trees per square metre. And that's only part of the environmental impact - the water necessary for a car factory of that size ("not much" according to Elon) is so much that a single source won't be enough beyond the first few batches of cars.

Now, is that the worst environmental impact a factory has ever had? Of course not. Does that mean it's irrelevant and people shouldn't care? No. There are real concerns with things like this and we need to stop dismissing protests by saying "it's just a few more trees and a couple of endangered species".
Imagine that, not letting corporations get their way in everything might mean they'll invest less in your country! Well tough luck, maybe when you need to put the interests of a single megacorporation ahead of those of millions of people to make your economy function it's a sign that something needs to change.
