Marhier got a reaction from Biohazard777 in Has your view of LTT or Linus changed?
I heavily reduced my viewership of the spin-off LMG channels in response to the resolution of clickbait titles.
My level of concern would have been mitigated had the clickbait been accompanied by comprehensive context, which I distinctly recall was initially pledged by Linus during the initial discourse on the matter.

From the commencement of the Short Circuit series, I promptly developed a sense of disenchantment towards the individuals operating behind the camera, who exhibited an escalating frequency of attempts at humor. This source of irritation was particularly pronounced in instances where Adam assumed a role behind the camera, as it appeared that his interjections followed each of the presenter's paragraphs.

There exists a multitude of organisational aspects within LMG that necessitate rectification, a significant portion of which pertains to personnel displaying incompetence or creating a sense of vexation.

Depends if you can afford it or not.
    1) Is all the money you have for the PC?
    2) If you made a saving on the card, would it go to improve something else in the PC, or would it just be a saving?
    3) How long have you been waiting?
    4) How long are you willing to wait?

I've seen about a thousand videos, from all tech YouTubers, stating the prices are going to come down, which they have, but they're still not at MSRP, and likely not to fall to that level for a while, as there's potential for more drop in supply.

It's like waiting to upgrade you PC... Should I wait for the next gen.... That comes out, but then should I wait for the next gen... I vicious cycle.

This makes sense to me.  My understanding is ‘big air’ has a thermal envelope max similar to all but the thickest (and most expensive) 240s. 360 is just higher though.  I do not know how much difference there is between a 360 and a 280. The 2d area (ignoring fin stuff) is about the same as a 360, but 140mm fans aren’t as good at static pressure as 120s so 280mm radiators tend to be sparse and thin. I wouldn’t be surprised if high end 240s beat at least some 280s.  My understanding is you just get more-or-less better behavior out of an air cooler, but their thermal envelope can be limiting on very hot chips. If you need a 360 to maintain ona 12900k machine you’ve likely already passed the thermal envelope limit of air. I suspect the 209mm fans do little if anything to the rad.  As fan diameter goes up static pressure ability goes down. 200mm is worse for static pressure than 140mm. ( better for airflow and low noise though)

Further to the above, I would highly recommend anyone wanting to get the 12900k (even if it's just for gaming), to consider a 360mm radiator if planning to get an AIO.

I built mine originally with a 240mm, and whilst I had no issues per se, the temps would sometimes get higher than I'm comfortable with, without having to undervolt.
I had a custom fan curve and it would constantly switch between the faster and slower speeds as it heated and cooled respectively.
The radiator would get extremly hot and didn't feel it was getting rid of the heat fast enough.

I was idling at 36 degrees, but under gaming load it would be in the low to mid 70's and sometimes get into the 80's.
I remounted the cooler 3 times to make sure it was on properly and getting a good spread of thermal paste... My results were the same each time.

This week I changed it to the 360mm model.
I'm idling at 29 degrees and running the same games, it's gone no higher than 62 degrees so far.

I wasn't expecting it to make that much of a difference, but it really has.

Hopefully someone who has the same questions I had finds this and helps them in some way.

2x 16GB is what I recommend for most things, unless you are really trying to scrimp.  Speed is personal preference, but my take is that up to 3200 or so, stability is not usually an issue.  YMMV.  Dual rank vs single rank is probably more apt to make a notable difference in performance, than speed and CAS (imho).

Btw - more paste is better than less paste,  at least when the paste is electrically non-conductive. Most modern pastes are, same for viscosity - most pastes aren't too viscous. Just get a good paste and good amount, everything else is secondary.

    my advice is always this:
if you're scared of using too much paste, make an X from corner to corner on the cpu. you'll be inclined to put very thin lines and as a result have roughly the right amount of paste to have it "just about spread out perfectly".

if you're scared of using too little paste, use the pea method. you'll be inclined to make it a big pea, and as a result have roughly the right amount of paste to have it "just about spread out perfectly".

i often use spread when i'm dealing with bare die (happens surprisingly often..) and it's honestly just too much mess to make sense for an IHS where absolute perfect coverage is a necessity (you can miss a little corner, it's not a problem)

remember that any excess paste you put on just squishes out the sides, so as long as you dont go "GN proving a point" excessive it'll be just fine.

Draw an X in paste, and then put a dot in the middle of each side near the edge.

OR just dump half a tube into the middle.

It's decidedly not that important, as long as the entire chip is covered.

I've always manually spread my TIM applications.

So either do that or do an X with with a dot in the open space, that will be plenty.

I was just putting their build from their original post into PC Part Picker for them for pricing.
But 100%, would recommend a better cooler for that processor - I should have mentioned that and have updated the list accordingly.

In regards to chaging the CPU and motherboard, also a good options... Though going LGA 1700, they should be mindful that the cooler they buy may not come with the right mounting brackets etc.

I would suggest they look at some benchmark videos on YouTube for their use case to see if it'll give them the performance they want.

I just put your spec in PC Park Picker, but added an RTX 3060 Ti and it came to under $2,000.00
Add a Quest 2 in there and you've got on, or just under your budget, providing you can get them parts at those prices.

    https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Marhier/saved/#view=RCmDjX

There's a bit you could do to save some money there though.
You could go for a Ryzen 5600X processor, which will take off about $100.00
You don't have to go for a 970 Evo for the NVMe.

This is based on that you can get the parts at the prices listed and if they're in stock.
I'm in the UK, so bit harder for me to say, but where I am, stock is showing in most retaliers now of all these parts.

You're spending a lot on your CPU and getting a mid range GPU.
You could buy really good 3000 series Ryzen for a lot cheaper, but performs just as well and have more money to buy a better GPU.
