go for the i5 upgrade kit, it will still be a good CPU to game with. But why would you change your current i5-4690K?
That Haswell chip will perform as good as a 8th gen core i3
to be honest you will need a Graphics Card upgrade only

But much lower price (especially when you factor in the platform) which made them great value for people on a tighter budget such as myself. I didn't have the money for a GPU originally so an APU was a good stopgap measure and it's just been lying around for over a year since I got an Athlon X4 860K and a 960

Given that also according to User Benchmarks, the A6 is about twice as good as the Core2 Duo they have and I already have the A6 and know it works and I'm not having to take a chance with ebay sellers. I'll stick with that. I am not saying that the Pentium is bad, I know it's a good chip, I just don't need to spend the extra but thanks for the insight.

But for the record, dismissing AMD as junk is kinda short sighted, AMD CPUs have always been a good value option and considering I have them already and for what I'm doing they will perform well, I'll carry on using them.

Buying a G4560 is a lot more expensive and it's not like they need a lot out of the PC. To get that CPU, I'd need to get a new Motherboard AND new RAM since the G4560 runs using DDR4 not the DDR3 I have already. This CPU is more than enough for their needs. I gamed on it for 8 months with it as my primary machine and although it wasn't the best a gaming, it was fine for everything they'll be using it for. It's by far superior to what they have right now and I won't be spending £45 on a new CPU I don't need, or money on a motherboard for it, not to mention £70 on 8 GB of DDR4 when I have a perfectly functional and respectable platform already.

No offence but it's fanboys like you that flat out ignore the use case and discard a build based on what brand of CPU is going in it that make planning a build that much worse. if I didn't know that the parts I have now are perfectly viable for their use case I might have asked them to spend a lot more than they need to. This is clearly a value orientated build and my parents don't wanna spend too much.

what is cheaper? if the triple kit is the cheaper one or the price difference is little (say $5) then get it, you will utilize the triple channel support

as you are trying to build a X58 system i know who are the guys that is like your guide to the X58 ecosystem. @panther420 and @Zando Bob

ok so i am gonna talk about the components selection
first, the CPU-GPU-Motherboard combo is great. don't forget to overclock that chip to the 4GHz threshold or better, since that OC is gonna help minimalize the bottleneck

now cooling, i would suggest changing it up to a NH-U14S. Because a D14 can be an overkill, and can be a pain to install since it is big and be aware of the cooler clearance, but i guess if you want the D14 to get better temps, it's fine. the U14S will still be fine for OC-ing the chip, but if you go for the D14 you will have more headroom

for the ram that kit will be just fine, even that the fact it is dual channel. It will be like having a dual channel kit on a motherboard with 4 DIMM slots

also 550W is fine with this config, no need for 750W actually.

it would be the X62 because it has two noise making components, the Pump and the Fan
and Noctua's coolers is known to be silent and efficient so you won't have to run it at 2000RPM for a nice temperature

also the performance of Noctua's High end coolers are on par with other High end AIOs (say NH-D15s to a X52)
between X52 and X62 it will be like 3-5 degrees celcius difference

    ok so it's fixed now

I prefer the ASRock MoBo list as it is $120 cheaper and it has dual fan so it should be less noisy than the Asus card, also yes that card is one of the best also in the 1080ti with custom cooler market
    for the questions
if you want a guide for Z370 boards that are good for overclocking well look at this link https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/882435-motherboard-for-i7-8700k/ Both kits are RGB it is gonna be good and will cool that i7 without pushing the RPM further with the stock fans you can have 4 fans on the rad but i don't think it will fit on the case, i suggest you to change the case to a Define R6 from Fractal Design if you want to have 4 fans on the rad
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/4gw7YJ/fractal-design-define-r6-gunmetal-tg-atx-mid-tower-case-fd-ca-def-r6-gy-tg what brings you to use an All in One Liquid Cooler? It's fine but you can actually get the same performance in the air cooler equivalent of it like the NH-D15S, i mean just in case you need to keep that H700i because the looks

Keep one RX 470 and sell the other cards, as a 1060 should have more resale value.

Then buy a next generation card with your new spare $400 whenever they come out.

from the "Does RAM Speed Really Matter?" video
"it can cause these kinds of issue from chip to chip or board to board or ram stick to ram stick depending on your luck, it can also cause less severe but equally annoying issues to come up at some point in the future"

yeah your board might not support 3200MHz, or maybe you didn't turn on the XMP profile?

    noo, personally
since you got a great performer 4c/4t and i think will still be able to handle current games
also DDR4 modules are still expensive so i wouldn't recommend it

no it wouldn't run those card in SLI
But there is Explicit Adapter Mode which is not SLI but a mode pairing two video card together, even if they are different brand or architecture
anyways for my list i didn't read that you have the case already, also for the board i changed it because i want to make the cost down without loosing too many features that the Maximus X has but if you want to go back it is still reasonable too for another $100
for the cooler i changed it because it could handle the 8700K just fine

If you expect more features from Thread Ripper (let's call it TR) 2nd gen then i suggest wait but there are already a price cut to the TR 1900X that makes it at $449, so that is something if you want a feature rich 8c/16t processor

Potentially there would be more PCIe lanes to the 2nd gen?
