Walt reacted to Slottr in Is Iphone X Locked worth something?
It's stolen, so no

Walt reacted to Sauron in Is my computer good?
You already have it so why don't you just try? It's a low performance machine for both of those but maybe it's good enough for you.

Walt reacted to Fasauceome in Is my computer good?
good at what? It's certainly no gaming PC that's for sure, unless you love bloons tower defense.

Walt reacted to Roswell in which pci slot for esata card
I just grabbed it from the product page I looked at earlier:
So just take the order they're written in and apply it top to bottom for your 3 slots. The x1 slots shouldn't have any effect on the big ones.

Walt reacted to rcmaehl in What makes a game CPU/GPU intensive?
Math. Plain and simple. Some specific types of math such as calculating vertices can be offloaded to a device specifically made for that kind of math, known as the GPU. Other kinds of math are loaded on the CPU instead.

Walt reacted to FastRDust in To good to be true?
What sketches me out is the account. is it a hacked account?
are you paying for that and then he resets the password when you're leaving with the pc?

Walt reacted to jj9987 in Can a non-bottle-necked system have better performance than a better bottle-necked system
Every system has a bottleneck, question is at what load.
If your CPU is bottlenecking, then getting slower GPU will not increase your FPS. In fact, it could decrease it when GPU becomes the bottleneck.

Walt reacted to Neftex in 1000 MEMORY CLOCK?? Why dont msi AB memory clock effect anything ? i can put it to max 1000 ??
1) think about what you want to ask us
2) put some effort into trying to make it understandable for others

Walt reacted to Jurrunio in Which of these setups are the best?
By the time TR2 comes, Nvidia's new graphics card should be out. Decide that or 1080ti later, but definitely not SLI
If you want to overclock the 24 core or 32 core, you need a new motherboard. That's why you should build the thing after TR2 comes and not buy TR1

Walt reacted to Ty_Cox in Guide to Web Development & Trying to Solve Step 5
After spending time in a javascript framework, I realized I've gone through many phases in web development. I wanted to share these steps to see if others can relate or differ, and also figure out what the next step to this puzzle is.
1) Learn HTML and CSS
2) Learn that GUI wizards are trash
3) Learn JavaScript and Jquery
4) Learn JavaScript with TypeScript Framework and pretend you didn't do the other stuff before this

Walt reacted to Brooksie359 in About to puchase my first Build. Few questions !?
I would go for a 144hz monitor as you can get a freesync 144hz for about that price.

Walt reacted to Nicnac in First pic of next gen NVIDIA card leaked!
Finally the first pic of nvidias next gen prototype board has been spotted!
A couple of specs can be seen already
Other than that we can't say much unfortunately but it's nice to finally have something to look at imo...
So Nvidia actually is working on something and not just waiting for amd to catch up
Source is wccftech so yea this might as well be some crap someone pulled out of a dumpster lol
Is this the actual pcb layout that will be used to the next gen cards? who knows!
It looks much more like a test board and might as well be considering the beefy power supply and vrm cooling.
Source: https://wccftech.com/nvidia-geforce-next-gen-graphics-card-pcb-leak/
In other news, we might see new cards in september:

Walt reacted to WereCatf in Editing of NAS or external hdd
1) Because they either have the spare parts, they just like to build their own, or they want more features than ready-made NASes offer. 2) I dunno, I don't use a ready-made. Synology and QNAP should be good brands, as far as I know, but I can't recommend any specific model. 3) A quick Google-search says that all 2011 iMacs should already have gigabit Ethernet. 4) At least a lot better than any USB2.0 - drive would be.

Walt reacted to Windows7ge in Editing of NAS or external hdd
Your ISP plan is irrelevant here.
USB2.0 is very slow by internal HDD standards. You won't have a good experience.
Best options are either NAS or another internal HDD. If you setup a server particularly in RAID 5/6 and buy a 10Gbit NIC (you can do this cost effectively) he'll have a better experience scrubbing though footage over the network.
Ebay is a nice place to pick up bare-bones second hand servers from vendors such as supermicro. Do be aware they're not quiet machines. You won't want it in a bedroom that you frequent or sleep in.
Again, cheapest route, bigger internal HDD.

Walt reacted to WereCatf in Editing of NAS or external hdd
Um, your Internet-speeds don't matter since all the data will travel inside your local network, not over the Internet (unless you've really fucked up your network-setup in the first place, and then you've got bigger problems!) Does your dad's iMac have a gigabit Ethernet-card? Does your router/switch/hub do gigabit-speeds? If yes, then NAS is the way to go, USB2.0 is very, very slow and totally unusable for video-editing.

Walt reacted to Mikensan in Port forwarding fails
Please make sure you're not totally open to the world. Head over to https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2 and test "All service ports." If they're all blocked, enjoy your gaming :-)

Walt reacted to jde3 in Port forwarding fails
Netcat can open a port for you to use to test with.
Just netcat -l portnumber. Then run your scan.. if you don't get anything then your natting the wrong host maybe.
-
Walt reacted to Mikensan in Port forwarding fails
When using the website to test if the ports are open, it is important to make sure your ark server is running. If there is no service accepting connections then it will be listed as closed.
Look for logging on your fritzbox, have your friend try to connect, then review the logs during that narrow window of time for connection attempts.
-
Walt reacted to Meic in Port forwarding fails
You can check if the ports were opened successfully using a service like: https://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/
Does this show the ports you list above as open or closed?

Walt reacted to NinJake in Port forwarding fails
When you configured the server properties are you pointing the config file to your ubuntu IP? If your server is not setup with a static IP then you have to ensure the router is looking for the correct IP address as well.
Make sure the IP matches the configuration on the server and the router.
Make sure the port you are forwarding is the port required for ARK.
When you connect to the server from outside your network, you need to use your external IP address (Provided by your ISP)
Example: Your Ubuntu IP is likely something like 192.168.1.10
Your public facing IP can be found by searching "whats my ip" in google. It should not be in the 192.168.x.x range. In this example we'll say it's 123.123.11.22
When you tell your friends the IP address and you verify that port 27015 is what's forwarded, you tell them to connect to 123.123.11.22:27015

Walt reacted to Master Disaster in Apple (quietly) stops developers from gathering new contacts data for economic purposes
I'll be very honest here, I'm usually leading the pack when it comes to calling out Apple over bullshit but I'm also the first to point out that in terms of user privacy policies Apple is miles ahead of most other large tech companies.
I think you'll find Apple has been in the news for not releasing customer data way more than the opposite.
They're guilty of a lot of bullshit practices but not protecting user data isn't one of them.

Walt reacted to Lurick in NAS or just external hard drive?
Ah! Yah, you just plug the ethernet port on the back to the box itself and anything wired or wireless on the local network will be able to access it via the IP address you assign or it picks up. I would recommend setting it statically, that will vary depending on what NAS you get, but usually the instructions for setup will walk you though that for the box
Edit:
If you don't have any free ports you can get a 5-port or 8-port gigabit switch for like $20 and just plug one cable from the router to the switch and then everything additional you need to connect goes into the switch and it's done, you've got more ports
