I may be misunderstanding something here, but reading this:
is this not an issue on microsoft teams side vs google?

I think they have to also change the word smart to dumb.
"the pixel 7 is our latest dumb in the pixel series."

I'm all for the app sending details (if properly managed and secured), but the call is still very much necessary. 911 is not just there to dispatch, but to provide medical advice and calm direction/judgement while waiting for the emergency services. Eliminating the call would leave tons of people bleeding out or not getting CPR while help arrives. this would almost certainly kill many people.

911 is outdated. They should make (or better said should have 50 years ago) an app where you just press a button and all of your details, location, literally every single possible information about yourself is sent to the emergency services automatically. This should also lock your phone so you can no longer turn it off or turn disable the internet and if it is below a certain battery level it should turn off everything except the necessary to allow for it to continue being tracked. This is all common sense and would save 200% more lives than whatever they are doing currently. Not sure why you still have to "call" to get help.

Every language on their menu works for me, except English. My guess would be that this is a bug on their site, where Chinese was accidentally also used as the default language.

If you select any other language, you can see that the language is added into the URL, for example https://www.netacad.com/fr/courses/packet-tracer if you pick French. Simplified Chinese adds "zh-hans" instead, while English removes it altogether, but you still see Chinese.

Jtalk4456 reacted to wanderingfool2 in What with Linus sexually harassing his employees? I mean if a bar manager talked to his female bartender like this, that person would be fired.
It's not even sexual harassment.  If both parties are okay with it it's not an issue.

The politically correct culture can really ruin a company in my opinion.  It makes working for places not fun to work for if you aren't allowed joking around and always need to remain "professional".  Again, if the party involved is okay with it there isn't a problem with it.

Some people aren't comfortable and hate with swearing, would you imply they shouldn't ever swear as well.

Yes sexual harassment is a thing, but trying to claim that what Linus and Jake are doing is sexual harassment just makes it worse for the people who actually are harassed at work.

Jtalk4456 reacted to DarkSwordsman in Someone gave me an idea, so I used it as an opportunity to exercise Blender and Photoshop more
I saw this tweet, which I had replied to already yesterday, but this morning it gave me an idea.
    Getting Started
So here I'll detail what I did. First, I created a box of sorts and tried to setup the camera to be a similar focal length as the one used in the photo.

Next, I modeled a neon sign using extruded nurbs paths.

Next I lined it up mainly using the image as an opaque layer in the camera itself. I also originally tried to create boxes for the lights to block light, but I didn't use this in the final render.

Then we setup materials. One was the emissive for the neon sign, and the other was the reflective surface for the floor and wall.

Next I tried to export the image with alpha by using one of the gloss layers as an alpha mask, but it kept breaking and didn't give me what I wanted

So I instead opted to use the raw image and use Photoshop to do some masking technique that I had learned through this post

Plus a mask of the grates so the light doesn't reflect off empty air

And with a little tweaking: Viola! A finished result:

Edit: I realize now that I should've added a noise texture to the floor material since the original floor has texture to it, if you compare the orange reflection to the blue one on the left

    Edit 2: Fixed the image
Added noise to the floor reflection so it matches the other reflections Added glass reflections on the server rack glass doors Fixed the ceiling material since it was too shiny Added noise to the ceiling and wall immediately outside the sign to blend with the wall and ceiling texture

Also as a general update I finally got with the teacher and turns out I only have to address part of the issues. I can basically pick a piece of the prompt and run with it. The teacher is not expecting nearly as much as the prompt made it seem. Still a pain in the butt essay, but far closer to manageable.

For pricing, find at least 3 comparable solutions and get quotes for them. This way you have a relative idea as to if something is good value or if everything is "competitively priced"

Jtalk4456 reacted to NinJake in Need to be pointed at what to research
It's easy to get overwhelmed with a lot of complex buzzwords in college courses like that. Sometimes the best solution is to break it down into a few words and then start searching based off what you know.

    -Low budget
    -New/"emerging" technologies
    -Log files

I did a quick search on "new and upcoming open source software for scanning log files" and came up with this list as a result. (https://sematext.com/blog/log-analysis-tools/) I'd start here, or you could try a few more searches yourself to narrow the "technology" down that you want to focus on.

If you can focus on free/open source solutions I think that would be beneficial.

Maybe there's some sort of AI software/machine learning that can help in this area as well. Good luck!

Eh. Took a look at most of the comments you see upon opening it and most of them seem to complain about the price. Not surprising. There's lots of people that don't understand premium things, and a lot of LTT's younger audience probably has no desire (or really, use) for a $70 screwdriver.

I don't see why you'd feel embarrassment for someone else, just because you follow their content. They're not connected to you, have no relation to you, and don't know you exist. They're nothing to you, you're nothing to them. Period.

I don't see this as negatively affecting them that much. He's standing up for his product. Good on him.
Now, if you can point out to specific tweets that devolve into something worse, giv'er.

    Yes, Megapro.
    They have. Megapro.
    Wrong.
Does iFixIt make it's own stuff? I'd highly doubt that. They send it away, just like virtually every other manufacturer.
He's said parts of it are are sent to China. Enough of it is done here that it could be labelled as Made In Canada.
I highly doubt that, or you work with people of a very young mental maturity. I also don't believe that potential customers are being turned away. It just went live, and they've already sold 10,000. Even if it did turn away a small handful, oh well. Doesn't really affect much in the long run. You will never please everyone, and trying will simply end in complete failure. Correcting people spreading misinformation can be pretty important, and it can result in more lost sales since there's no blowback from the retailer.
It's not a new thing on the LTT forum, they love to bandwagon on joining the current hate train. For the past couple of years it's been Intel.
    I don't follow.
    Well that devolved quickly.
Completely disagree. Lots of stuff designed in China is of exceptional quality. Just look at the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2.
Beats the Samsung in almost every design regard.

I never said I agreed with his post at all, but you chose to assume my allegiance instead of reading what I actually wrote. Along with fanboys come haters, both relying on a non objective view/reaction of the situation. You think he's doing bad, and that's fine. You're more than entitled to that opinion. But that's your OPINION, you don't just magically get the right to force him to stop voicing HIS OPINION. Free speech is not speech with no consequence, it's speech subject to public scrutiny. He has the right to say what he wants even if he's wrong. And we have the right to disagree with him and voice our opinions in response, even if WE are wrong. But no one gets to force him to close his mouth or take his phone away. Now I'll give the benefit of the doubt and assume you weren't actually threatening to run to his house, assault him and steal his phone. But just like his free speech is subject to scrutiny, so is yours. Your post wasn't worded as an objective critique encouraging engagement. Your post was just rude yelling thru the internet. Your post is what we call being a hater. Hence the sarcastic tone I used and frequently use on my children to point out the fallacies in their arguments.
