I don't see a problem with it.  In fact, it's probably better than the Soundblaster Z.

Why dont you just use your HD 558 for gaming? A dac and amp will not help anything, you can read my post about this linked in my signature.

Yes, because there is quality drop off.  Youtube audio already goes through at least 2 transcodes before it even reaches your speakers, and lets not get into legality.

I really doubt an up and coming artist would deny you the right to have his/her music.  Don't they want people to listen to their shit?

Pomfinator got a reaction from Dackzy in Headphone and Sound Card/or DAC Recommendations?
IMO, start small.  The first step to becoming an audio enthusiast is knowing exactly what you want, and dropping $500 on your first pair of headphones is not the way to go.  Worrying about source, amplification, etc, those can come later, as well as the pain of your wallet getting thinner

I suggest starting with the Sennheiser HD558, AKG K612, or the Audio-Technica AD700x.  Also peruse the cheaper options in the Audio Gear Recommendations Thread stickied at the top, that's it's intended use after all.

If you're going to drop more money, I suggest you keep your budget at 300-400, that can easily get you something like an HD600, AD1000x, DT880, Fidelio X2, or an HE400S.  It's all about finding out what you like, which is why it's good to start smaller.

Dunno if its silly of me to think this, but paying 1800 for a headphone made in China doesn't seem appealing to me.  Neither does buying an HD800S full price sound good either.

Pomfinator got a reaction from Octavialicious in AMP Recommendation for HE-X
I think people exaggerate when they say that, I think in my mind's heart that the Asgard 2 is a little teensy bit warmer than say an O2, but I really wouldn't know for sure until we get some measurements showing FR.

What I'm trying to say is that the Asgard sounds like a solid-state amp, it should have no problems sounding good with a pair of planars.  But so would a Magni 2, so *shrug*

Pomfinator got a reaction from Octavialicious in AMP Recommendation for HE-X
I guess, I just have this dumb prejudice against the O2 because it never was meant to have the kind of widespread desktop solution popularity it holds today, but it's still a capable amp.  Depends on the deal too, if like $200 maybe, but if its over $250 or so, there is no reason you should buy it over a Schiit stack.

No. The O2 is overpriced for what it is in my opinion, to say nothing of the prejudice that is against it in certain audiophile circles.

Edit: I'm including the ODAC in that assessment as well; if anything it is even more overpriced as the Modi is a MUCH better value.

I think you should go back to your friend and tell him that maybe instead of blindly relying on our testimony about spending thousands of dollars on equipment he should probably get a professional to help him with his choice of equipment rather than random idiots on the Internet.

Or he can get on here and explain himself in his own words what he's looking for.  You acting as a proxy for him is not the solution, especially because your vague answers are not helping us find an inkling of what your friend wants.

A lot of math, a lot of theory.  If you don't like math theory, you won't like CS at all.

It normally starts alright, the 1st and 2nd semesters of CS are pretty heavy programming classes to get you familiarized with how programming languages work (normally taught in Python, Java, C, C++), but by your third semester, you're going to be dealing less with actual code and more with machine languages (like MIPS) and diagrams (look up Logisim on Google).  Once you get into upper divisions, it's almost all algorithms.

I was about to say, headphone jacks usually don't output clean mono signal if you break them.

Anyway if the HD558's caught your eye I suggest just go for them, great place to start in terms of budget headphones.
