Best MP3 player under $100?

SirReginald

I have the rha ma750 iems, which don't sound very good with my phone, suffering from reduced clarity in the highs. Are there any good mp3 or portable music players with a decent dac?

where do you live? You can get the fiio x1 for 100$ on the US. amazon, Or the fiio m3 for 55$. On the the German amazon you can get the fiio m3 for 69€

Before you buy amp and dac.  My thoughts on the M50x  Ultimate Ears Reference monitor review I might have a thing for audio...

My main Headphones and IEMs:  K612 pro, HD 25 and Ultimate Ears Reference Monitor, HD 580 with HD 600 grills

DAC and AMP: RME ADI 2 DAC

Speakers: Genelec 8040, System Audio SA205

Receiver: Denon AVR-1612

Desktop: R7 1700, GTX 1080  RX 580 8GB and other stuff

Laptop: ThinkPad P50: i7 6820HQ, M2000M. ThinkPad T420s: i7 2640M, NVS 4200M

Feel free to pm me if you have a question for me or quote me. If you want to hear what I have to say about something just tag me.

on a slightly unrelated note, do you personally think that using youtube as a source for music and converting it to an mp3 (which has no quality drop off in my testing) is a bad place to get music from? A lot of the artists that I listen to are up and coming artists that you would be hard pressed to find on any song purchasing website.

Why not Spotify or any other streaming service?

Unless YouTube has upgrade recently I think the audio maxes out at 192 kbps AAC on 1080p/720p videos, which is definitely fine for most people I guess. Might have some compression when it comes to more complex songs, but I'm not sure.

Personally the lowest I'd go is 320/256 kbps or VBR.

Yes, because there is quality drop off.  Youtube audio already goes through at least 2 transcodes before it even reaches your speakers, and lets not get into legality.

I really doubt an up and coming artist would deny you the right to have his/her music.  Don't they want people to listen to their shit?
