sennheiser is normally a little more base heavy but i dont own both of them so i cant tell.

another idea would be the beyerdynamic custom one pro's with the base slider. i own them and they are good. the most comfortable headphone i know.

so what do i need for a amp

outside the one that is build into your motherboard nothing really unless you buy hard to drive headphone, but since you buy hd 598 or m50 then just stick with your onboard. Why not get the 558 they sound really really similar to the 598 and if you look up the fr for them you can see how much they look a like.

Before you buy amp and dac.  My thoughts on the M50x  Ultimate Ears Reference monitor review I might have a thing for audio...

My main Headphones and IEMs:  K612 pro, HD 25 and Ultimate Ears Reference Monitor, HD 580 with HD 600 grills

DAC and AMP: RME ADI 2 DAC

Speakers: Genelec 8040, System Audio SA205

Receiver: Denon AVR-1612

Desktop: R7 1700, GTX 1080  RX 580 8GB and other stuff

Laptop: ThinkPad P50: i7 6820HQ, M2000M. ThinkPad T420s: i7 2640M, NVS 4200M

Feel free to pm me if you have a question for me or quote me. If you want to hear what I have to say about something just tag me.

who told you that? I would like to meet this person and talk to him. The 598 uses slightly better materials, when it comes to sound the 558 sounds about 95-98% the same.

if it was z reviews then dont trust him at all, he is "old" with bad hearing, memory and is really sensitive to treble.

The HD 558, but see if you can try them before you buy them. If you can get the 598 for 10-20$ more then get them, just for the better materials.
