danrey84 got a reaction from JustEbu in Good Temps with OC?
If you stress tested the cpu with the in built test within cpu z I personally would take those results with a pinch of salt and stress test with either AIDA64 OCCT Realbench and see what your temps are then.

Would you not say 4 hours of prime and 4 of OCCT is good enough for a stress test ??

danrey84 got a reaction from TahoeDust in 7820x 5ghz
Think I may for the first time have won the silicone lottery for a change. Had my 7820x a couple of weeks been slowly pushing the limits but from what I've have read and seen is that most don't seem to go to 5ghz. Now mine gets to 5ghz but I'm only 1.29v and alot of people are needing more volts for less frequency. Done the usual tests cinebench , realbench stress test and OCCT just to name a few. Just wondering if there are any 7820x users and what your experiences are.
Thanks again

danrey84 reacted to TahoeDust in Who is the 9900K for?
The average consumer 1000% should not buy the 9900k. It would be a complete and total waste on them. The average gamer or value oriented enthusiast, should probably not buy it either. The people that can afford it and want the best are who should buy it.

CPU at 4k becomes almost irrelevant as you become more GPU bound rather than CPU.

Biggest killer for CPU's are voltage then heat. You will never lose performance the thing with just flat out stop working. They either work or they don't work. Personally if your buying a ' K ' chip and not overclocking it's a waste.

danrey84 reacted to Molesy in i9 7900X Temps on air
damit intel why did you move from a solder based IHS to a thermal paste IHS. i was hoping the NH-D15 would be good enough to keep the temps at around the 60-70*C on load at stock speeds. I was considering a AIO but they also can get quite loud and i had a bad experience with an AIO in the past. Well i wont be delidding it at the moment. i guess i will have to connect the case fans to the case fan controller instead of the MB headers. case atm if the cpu is on load it starts ti sound like a jet engine next to me Would changing the Thermal paste from the one provided by noctua to an artic silver 5 help in any way?
I am currently using some Corsair ML120 fans on the NH-D15 hope that will help with better heat dissipation but i guess the main issue is between the Die and the IHS.

Without De-lidding and placing under an AIO that's probably about right

The stuff that comes from Noctua is actually pretty decent if honest with you. The problem is under the IHS and Intel even with there HEDT lineup deciding too use what can be described as toothpaste is the problem

danrey84 got a reaction from SneerRolts in Seeking Help w/Finding Right Performance-Temp Balance for New i7-8700k Build
Personally at the moment IMHO I would just run things at stock till you decide what cooler you want to get. As most games even on a stock 8700k you won't have a single problem. Don't get me wrong the 8700k when overclocked is a monster chip and you do get some gains. Thing is when overclocking the goal is to get the most speed with rock solid stability at the lowest voltages possible and it's a VERY fine line and can days if not a few weeks too really tweak. The problem is with 8700k and it's predecessor the 7700k is they just have TIM which is terrible especially for the price you pay. So your already up against it because the biggest fight straight away are thermals. Hence why alot of people and not even hardcore overclockers delid them and replace the TIM cause they no they can already make there thermals better between 10 and 20 degrees which then means then you tend not to need as much voltage.

I think it will be incompatible (at least the 8 core CPU). Sure it's against the two-generations rule and Z390 is still a 300 series chipset, but it's Intel after all.

danrey84 got a reaction from MrAlbertrocks in 6700k/7700k upgrade or nah?
As you already have a z170 i would be more inclinded to get the 6700k over the 7700k. Yes the 7700k can clock higher but it has awful TIM. Where as the 6700k didnt suffer these problems. I can get 4.6ghz on my 6700k and never goes above 60 in 1440p gaming paired with a 1080 hybrid

danrey84 got a reaction from Farkash in MSI GTX 1070 Unigine Heaven score - Confusion :(
If he is overclocking via the BIOS which is modified then yes he could potentially get those scores cause with in the BIOS and also hard modding the actual card so it in theory is getting a little more power. So he will get higher overclocks than what you would get with the factory ' OC ' from Msi. BIOS modding is very good but can also be dangerous due to the fact if the BIOS doesnt flash correctly to the card basically you have ' bricked ' the card unless you have a dual BIOS switch.

danrey84 got a reaction from kreechrr in 1080Ti in custom loop
Most times heat is a PC's problem so your temps seem very good so you doing any damage due to running high temps would be on the low side but its not really an exact science

for mining you may not want to overclock because the extra wattage is probably more than your extra revenue.

Hard to explain then but i would keep a close eye and get your warranty ready for an RMA just in case

I just hope AMD get VEGA right for the people wanting RX Vega. They have waited a long time I hope its worth it.

danrey84 reacted to Lazaro in Theory Crafting: Cooling a CPU without IHS?
Uhh its possible that the cooler itself wont come down far enough to touch the die. Plus it might cause under room temperatures which may cause water droplets too form which is always bad.

Yes you can but can be fiddly
