X99 > X299

danrey84

I'm currently running a 5960x @4.5ghz and not really seeing any problems when gaming and streaming. I also run a 1080Ti with it. Is it actually worth moving too x299 now or waiting maybe another year??

Thanks peeps

What resolution?

Buy whatever product is best for you, not what product is "best" for the market.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

I'd wait for the platform to mature a bit. X299 was a rushed response by Intel last year, and it has some teething issues.

Beyond that, if you're not seeing any issues with Haswell-E, I wouldn't bother spending the money to move up.

Nah stick with what you got. The only 44 lane CPUs are the 7900X and higher. Although the prices for some of the 12 and 14 core variants aren't too bad if you look around. You can even benefit from even fast memory in quad channel. Pretty much a workstation powerhouse.

no reason for you to upgrade now at all, plus threadripper 2 and new x299 cpu will come out late in the year (probably December for x299,and around june for threadripper)

Haswell-E is a really good platform and honestly with the setup you have now I wouldn't bother.  I really do wish I could have kept my x99 setup longer.  I'm more than happy with my current one but it was a good chunk of change I'd rather have kept.

No need of course, but you could do it nonetheless.

x99 rigs were never needed for gaming, but there we are enthusiast buying them haha.
