Depends on whether you need the cores, if not you'll probably be much better off with the i9 9900X as it will overclock more with less and 10c/20t.

Honestly though if you don't need the PCI-e lanes and quad channel the i9 9900K is a better pick, 8x PCI-e 3.0 still suffices for the SLI setup and you can have your nvme off the chipset 4x.

Have in mind how Skylake-X and Skylake-X Refresh uses Mesh which can be as bad as Infinity Fabric for the most part, Intel really only is keeping its single thread superiority nowadays thanks to Ring Bus on the mainstream... aside the frequency yeah.

But if you only want to have high scores on benchmarks not minding to over-pay the Gamer Nexus review showed that with the ONLY difference between the 7980XE and 9980XE is the former being soldered and that  they actually perform Identically when you control temperatures on both.

I suppose the "problem" is that "Apple has yet another hardware problem!"

Here's the thing. Apple doesn't make the SSD's inside their computer. Basically no OEM does (Aside from... Samsung, maybe?)

They identified a problem, identified which users were affected, notified them, and offered them a free solution to said problem, proactively, before any failure actually happened.

Well done Apple! (Totally serious about this, seriously, props Apple, more companies should do this)

So, it's a budget-oriented alternative to the 860 EVO line?   The performance is about equal, though the warranty on the 860 EVO line is 5 years, compared to the QVO's 3 year warranty.   860 EVO sequential read / write: up to 550 MB / up to 520 MB 860 EVO random read / write: up to 98k IOPS / up to 90k IOPS   860 QVO sequential read / write: up to 550 MB / up to 520 MB 860 QVO random read / write: up to 97k IOPS / up to 89k IOPS     The 1 TB QVO's MSRP of $149 USD still isn't cheaper than the 1 TB EVO was (and currently still is) at $129 USD / $177 CAD for Black Friday sales. I wonder what the release of the QVO is going to do to EVO's prices, including during sales.

DocSwag got a reaction from _Hustler_One_ in I7 8700K Can't Reach 5GHz at Common Voltage
Basically there are small variations that may occur when manufacturing the silicon dies that affect how high they can clock; how much voltage they need; how much power they need, etc.

It seems that anandtech just got a really good sample and yours is a little below average. You could try ramping up the fan speed on your cooler to reduce the temps a little bit; that may let you reach 5 ghz more easily. You could also try messing with the avx offset.

DocSwag reacted to seon123 in Is this PSU good enough?
    No. It's absolute garbage.
You should really get a better PSU. It doesn't even have to cost more. Though, I recommend trying to get at least a Formula 450W, Focus 450W or TX550M.

DocSwag got a reaction from Herman Mcpootis in New build, high end!
First off, the CPU+mobo doesn't make sense. Using a 9900k with a super low end board means that the VRMs are gonna be pretty bad, and may not even work with the CPU properly without more cooling. As well, you lose a lot of features (e.g. more ports) by getting such a cheap mobo. Honestly for CPU at most I would get a 9700k. Or maybe an 8700 non-k since you don't wanna OC

32 gb RAM is overkill for just gaming. 16gb would be fine; if you got a better board with 4 ram slots you could get 2x8gb allowing you to drop in another 2 sticks in the future (if needed) for 32gb.

You also don't really want to cheap out too much on the case; a bad case can make building in it much more of a pain and may have worse cooling lowering performance of your gpu and cpu.

The PSU is way overkill in wattage, you don't need that much.

That many case fans is a bit overkill; at most you might need 4.

Tesla is like Apple. The only news people care to report is bad because it gets more clicks. There are hundreds of electric car companies that startup and fail and no one hears about them. Yet Tesla manages to provide competitive cars against HUGE companies like Ford and GM that have been around since the late 1800s

DocSwag got a reaction from Joe Brainer in Adblock for Android that is real? I'm not trying to download Malicious junk.
I've used something called block this which works pretty well, and it doesn't require root. It routes traffic through a VPN on your device to the app so that I can filter the traffic. The downside though is that you then can't use a vpn at the same time. Also, it doesn't work on YouTube ads but it blocks website ads quite well.

If you're willing to give Firefox a try, they allow using extensions, so you could add ublock origin to it.

Doesn't need root access either. Uses android's VPN mode.

Just install the APK (Google removed it from the app store lol) and enable it, easy as that.

DocSwag got a reaction from Sakkura in which resolution is human eye limitation ??
It depends. On a smartphone screen the difference will usually be pretty small. On a laptop or monitor, though, you will probably be able to notice it.

Between 1440p and 4k, on a phone you probably won't notice anything. On a laptop the difference might be noticeable but very small. It would probably be more noticeable on a monitor or TV.

It all depends on viewing distance and screen size. Just like how a camera can't see as fine detail farther away.
  21. Agree
DocSwag reacted to Arika in which resolution is human eye limitation ??
Resolution doesn't matter. Pixel Density (measured as PPI/Pixels per inch) does and changes depending on how far away from the screen you are
  22. Agree
DocSwag reacted to Sakkura in which resolution is human eye limitation ??
The effective angular resolution of the human eye is about an arcminute (~0.02 degrees).

What that translates into for a flat screen resolution depends on how much of the field of view the screen occupies, which is determined by the size of and distance to the screen.
  23. Agree
DocSwag reacted to Lurick in which resolution is human eye limitation ??
None because the human eye doesn't see in pixels. Depending on distance, quality, screen size, etc. will all determine how sharp an image looks to you and what I might see could be completely different to what you see.

I would probably go 860 evo overall; you might get a little benefit in video editing but endurance will be worse and once the 660p starts getting filled up speeds (especially write speeds) become pretty crap.

-a bit overkill on cpu IMO, a 9700k or 2700/x would be a better choice depending on what animation applications you're using and you could use the money saved oh a better gpu
-at that price I can't really recommend a 120mm AIO over, say, a dark rock 4
-idk if you're willing to but saw a deal on Newegg eBay for a 512gb intel 545s for $55. It'd be a better ssd and larger
