xHadrian reacted to bowrilla in Open Loop Orientation Doesn't Matter.
While there is a delta between radiator in- and outlet, that delta is pretty low and it depends on the flowrate. The lower the flowrate, the higher the delta. The actual delta depends on the specifics of each loop however expect something in the range of ~0.2-2K difference in water temps. That delta does not directly result in the same difference on your CPU block. Of course, having a little bit colder water will result in a more efficient heat transfer between CPU block and water, however the bottleneck is not really the transfer between block and water but both between Die and IHS and between IHS and block (smallest contact area in both cases).

The impact of flowrate on the delta between in- and outlet does not mean, that slower flowrates are better (or vice versa for the blocks). Overall the total amount of heat energy being transferred is about the same. Basically (and very simplified), if you'd trace a water molecule through the loop it might remain in contact with the radiator surface for a shorter amount of time each round when flowrate is high, BUT it will do more rounds in the same amount of time as it would with a lower flowrate. The total amount of energy that is being dissipated through the radiator will be basically the same.

Of course, the type of flow (i.e. turbulent vs laminar) has an impact but our regular pumps will usually not easily make flow switch between those states. It is more dependant on the design of the specific component.

The difference in CPU (or GPU) temps will be marginal and within the margin of error. I'd dare to say a random Windows background process will have a larger effect on your temps and regulating/controlling your ambient temperature will be more beneficial in real world applications.

xHadrian reacted to W-L in Around 10 degrees difference between core and package temps on custom loop
The core temps are what you want to be mainly concerned about the package is usually the CPU as a whole or socket for ones with temp probes usually seen on the old AMD chips.

Yeah, I also wasn't thrilled with the performance of my H110iV2 when under load. And this is a 6700K we're talking about.
We're talking load temps that could easily go over 80C if I let it.
But after the custom loop was done, all my temps were so much lower.

Might I delid myself someday? Maybe. But right now, getting even lower temps just won't do anything for me at this point beyond just seeing lower numbers.

Unless you're components are pegged at 100C for hours at a time and you can actually get the liquid to raise to that level, you're not going to have any issues.
The temperature of the water will be a good bit lower than the component temps and will equalize at a certain point as well. So unless you're doing something like running an FX series processor, overclocked, with several Fiji based GPUs also overclocked on a single 120mm rad then that won't happen

Same thing happened to me, M-M fitting that was stuck on reservoir which stripped the threads. Just put some masking tape on it and use pliers. Wouldn't work from first try, but if you try really hard you can get it out. Also, make sure the threads on the rad aren't stripped. I used teflon tape on my stripped reservoir and it works great, however it was on plugs and not fittings so I'm not sure how it would work for you.

    Good luck.

    Hey guys, sadly some of the methods like wd 40 did not work so I ended up using it in my build as a way to connect my 5 way adapter to my drain valve and other fittings. Thank you all for the suggestions.;

xHadrian reacted to W-L in Tubing advice
I'm not sure who suggest to use tap water but you should be running distilled water with a biocide or premix solution like the cryofuel. You can swap the tubing to hardline but all the fittings need to be replaced, you also need a silicone insert to be used when bending the hardline tubing.

It was a couple of linus's videos, (the desk pc I think) and reading alot of threads on the internet about it, although come to think of it, most of them actually recommended distilled water. Guess I was an idiot. But live and learn I guess. I definitely remember not wanting to copy anything from the whole room WC videos after all their nightmares. Although it turns out it did.... rip.

Anyway, I've managed remove the biology from the loop, the tubing actually cleaned up quite nicely by poking toilet roll through it with a dowel, and giving it a wash with some soap and water. It was definitely an algae problem. The water was only a few days old, and already felt a bit disgusting and slimy. I got the cryofuel into the system, after cleaning everything, doesn't smell like anything would want to live there anymore....

Thanks for all the help @W-L

Against the better judgement of fellow forum members, I decided to mod my H100i GTX to have a 280mm radiator.
Please note that I had already voided my warranty long before doing this project.
For the radiator I decided to go with Black Ice's Nemesis L-Series 280mm Stealth radiator: http://www.performance-pcs.com/black-ice-nemesis-l-series-280-stealth-radiator.html
two of Bitspower's 3/8 ID 5/8 OD matte back fittings: http://www.performance-pcs.com/fittings-connectors/bitspower-g1-4-black-matte-compression-fitting-cc3-ultimate-for-id-3-8-od-5-8.html
and two140mm EKWB Vardar F2 fans to finish it off.

I started by removing the tubes from the old radiator, and quite unsurprisingly it was aluminum.

Next I took the pump/waterblock apart so I could remove the tubes and flush them and the waterblock seperately.

@For Science! warned me that bleeding this thing would be a pain in the ass. They were correct.
I had to fill the radiator, then mount the tubes to it and fill those on the radiator, and then fill the waterblock and jankily push it back onto the filled tubes without loosing too much water from the components while pushing them together.
I finally got all the bubbles out, did a super sketch mod to my S340 so I could mount the radiator before the fans and BAM it's done!

But I have to post the picture in the next post because my camera takes ~6.2MB imgaes

It keeps my FX 8350 just as cold as it used to but at much lower RPMs than the old fans.
Overall I'm very happy with this mod.

I spent quite some time explaining to one of my friends that not all downloads contain virus at all. And definitely not if you download a piece of software from a known publisher like antivirus software from Avast or AVG. As far as she was concerned, safe software comes from a store on a disk. Internet = virus...

Another girl from my school said that she liked the Sims games. I asked her why she hadn't installed the game on her Mac so she could enjoy them, then? Well, apparently because games make the computer run slow.

Actually today I had an argument with the same girl. She got very annoyed at me because I hit my elbow on the table where her Mac was standing. She recently learned that HDD's contain moving parts, and she was sure that the vibrations I created in the table would wreck the HDD and destroy her files.

My computer crashed from overheating and I told my father I needed to buy some fans. I came back and he put a bigass house fan blowing directly at it. He told me it was fine now and asked me to try it. Predictably, it crashed but he asked me "Do you think its too cold?"

I was complaining about my internet speeds (1 down, 0.2 up, 625ms latency <.<) and my uncle pipes in and says that he has 300 Mbps. I asked him if he had fibre and he replies: "No, I have normal internet, the company said it was 5 Mbps but I tricked them into giving me better internet because I bought a 300 Mbps router." I walked away and then died laughing...
