WereCat reacted to WoodenMarker in if i purchase two packages of single 1x16 gb ram and put them in the same system will it work? if so will there be a performance decrease?
If the ram is the same model, it should work just fine.
By default, they should run at standard jedec speeds dictated by the motherboard. If one dimm is slower than the other, you can run the sticks at the slower speed of the two.

Honestly, you will be dealing with driver issues on both sides so just pick the card that makes most sense to you. The 6900X is definitely a lot better card for gaming than RTX 3080 as long as you don't care about RT and some of the NVIDIA features.

However I wouldn't get an AMD card if you do any work that's GPU accelerated (except video encoding) since most SW just uses CUDA and AMD has been doing some work to improve things but in this aspect they are still quite behind.

I've been on NVIDA since the 700 series on my main PC and I haven't had so many issues as I did in the last year. The Forza Horizon is still broken (texture issues), MWII update makes the game flicker like crazy, we had videos in browser glitching (still have this issue unless I force the browser to use OpenGL... since November of last year...), GSync was broken in some cases, Dolby Atmos was broken for months, etc...

WereCat reacted to RONOTHAN## in 6900xt vs RTX 3080
I've used both as of pretty recent, the drivers on Nvidia are better but not significantly better. Both are definitely usable, the AMD drivers just have a few quirks with them (in driver update utility was broken last time I checked, the driver has the tendency to crash if you have an unstable overclock, etc.).

If you don't need any of the Nvidia specific features (NVENC, CUDA, etc.), I'd be using the 6900 XT. In my testing with both the cards at 4K (I daily a 4K panel so it was the testing relevant to me at the time), with both cards running a maxed out overclocked (the 6900 XT has a fair bit of overclocking headroom on it, got an extra 10-12% performance with an overclock) and about 6 months ago (driver revision affects performance a lot in some games, so figured it was worth mentioning), the 6900 XT was at worst, 5% behind, and at best was closer to 10% ahead. That includes ray tracing as well, where for the most part a heavily overclocked 6900 XT was about on par with the 3080. When you step down in resolution, RDNA2 tends to do even better, so if you're playing at 1440P I'd expect those numbers to look a better for the AMD card. Haven't really noticed frame times be significantly better or worse on one or the other, so I'd just take that to mean AMD's drivers were a little rough for the first month or two (that does tend to happen with AMD cards).

You can't go wrong with either of these cards, they're both phenomenal GPUs, but the 6900 XT is the one that IMO makes the most sense here. It would be the fastest card at the resolution you're planning to play at, and it's a little cheaper as well. The one I ended up keeping was the AMD card (it's in the system I'm currently typing this up on), so take that for what you will.

You'll have more success by taking the fans off the radiator and submerge it into a bucket of cold water. Then prepare another bucket of cold water once the 1st one starts to heat up and keep switching like this between them for the duration of the bench.

WereCat reacted to Shimejii in Should I get a 3080 10gb or 3090?
I would honestly wait to see what RDNA 3 Comes out with for 4k Gaming, that should dictate the price structure you will be heading down.

For 4k Gaming, i would be hard pressed to recommend 3090 since 3080 is so close to it, unless you are getting a quality card for around the same price (3080s going for 450-600, 3090s 650-800) that would sway the decision. If you are strictly buying a new card, neither honestly makes sense to buy at this point, just wait for what NVIDIA does with the 4070 or 4080 16 GB if they drop the price at all. Its a rough time to play at 4k with high refresh rate, and honestly its not a cheap endeavor. If you can afford a good quality 4k panel, id say you should be able to afford the hardware needed to run it beyond the 3080 without much issue because that is what is required to play it at high frames.

WereCat got a reaction from Arika in Valve increases suggested prices for Steam Games non USD currencies | Commits to update non USD price suggestions annually
Depends really. Some developers even said that they would rather you to pirate the game than to pay for a stolen key to a reseller (in regards to G2A at least). Some of those resellers though just sell keys from Humble Bundle which people did not claim or already had.

And to be fair. People that buy on these websites often have no idea. They just see the price being lower so they go an buy it even if the keys may have been stolen. I've had some of the keys I bought for dirt cheap and activated on Steam revoked and games removed as Steam found and struck down some of the stolen ones, that's when I realized it's not really worth it to spend any money on those websites.

Regarding corporate greed... well, those are these days just mostly Multiplayer games with your annual Battle Passes, Loot boxes, etc... people keep wasting money on those in such big amounts that price of the game barely matters vs the amount they spend in-game. It does not apply to everybody ofc.

WereCat got a reaction from bensinspade in Rtx 3070 or RX 6800
From Hardware Unboxed review RX 6800 vs RTX 3070ti (which is roughly 15% better than RTX 3070), the 3070ti is on avg about 5% slower. To the left how much slower the 3070ti is to the right how much faster it is in those games. Pick based on what you play.

They don't have 1080p for this comparison but at 1080p the RX 6800 will again be a tiny bit faster on avg since it benefit's more from it's big cache.

This is from 1month old comparison so the performance in those games will be almost precise representation of what you can expect.

They do have RX 6800 vs RTX 3070 but that's a 1 year old video so the performance in those games may have changed a lot with updates and drivers:

There's several sources for cable connectors melting, including JohnnyGuru himself while conducting testing for Corsair.
True, it's not a great design, and it is flawed in regards to durability. Which makes it odd that it even passed most tests to get out to the public.
However, it does work when implemented (carefully).
To me, it's almost like they did everything entirely in a lab, and never bothered building a PC with the new connector type.
I agree....sort of. You can bend it, it just has to be a certain amount away from the connector. All it takes is an extra step or two, something easily done by a new builder. I'd almost argue that it affects seasoned builders more, who have habits ingrained in them and won't want to learn new methods. Not saying that it's the right way to go, I'm strongly in the camp of making the GPU end 90 degrees to avoid strain at all, or redesigning it entirely. But it can be used when used with care, as is evident by the very small pool of problems that's arisen.

I do think it's stupid that we'd all have to start taking card/case measurements into account as well as cable extension from the card to the case wall.
The 90 degree connector would solve almost all of these issues.

"Building PC is easy, it's like building a LEGO... BUT MAKE SURE TO NOT BEND THIS CABLE OR YOU WILL BURN YOUR HOUSE DOWN!" is really how you get people into PC building... assuming the cable adapter really is this flawed and it's not just one-off issue.

Issue is somewhere else. Considering you use W10 I would start by disabling Windows Fast Startup and restart PC as for me that always caused weird performance issues.

Indeed, and given the FE card runs its RAM hottest and clearly is still within spec, anything cooler is well within acceptable limits.

I wouldn't be surprised if the VRAM is rated up to 105C so around 80s is no big deal.
