Should I get a 3080 10gb or 3090?

vrudolph

I am looking to upgrade from a 2080ti. I am not considering the 40 series, since it's out of my budget and the MSRP in europe is not resonable.

I game at 4k with a high refresh rate capable monitor and do some rendering work. I am not concearned with the rendering cababilities, since the 2080ti was enough for my work, but would like more power for gaming.

I have the option of getting either a 3080 10 gb for around 650euro or a 3090 for 850euro. The average fps difference at 4k is about 10-15% from what i gathered. Is this, combined with the vram difference worth it, or will I be wasting my money?

(not considering the 3080ti or 3080 12gb, since they are the same price as a 3090 on the used market in my region, for some reason)

I would honestly wait to see what RDNA 3 Comes out with for 4k Gaming, that should dictate the price structure you will be heading down.

For 4k Gaming, i would be hard pressed to recommend 3090 since 3080 is so close to it, unless you are getting a quality card for around the same price (3080s going for 450-600, 3090s 650-800) that would sway the decision. If you are strictly buying a new card, neither honestly makes sense to buy at this point, just wait for what NVIDIA does with the 4070 or 4080 16 GB if they drop the price at all. Its a rough time to play at 4k with high refresh rate, and honestly its not a cheap endeavor. If you can afford a good quality 4k panel, id say you should be able to afford the hardware needed to run it beyond the 3080 without much issue because that is what is required to play it at high frames.

Either, I got a 3090, cheap enough and will last longer than a 3080. So easy choice for me. I prefer 1080p but if gamed at 4k I'd get the strongest thing I could afford.

None of those are enough of an upgrade from a 2080ti. Keep what you got

If you're running 4k I'd 100% not get a 10GB card.  Though the titles I had issues with were few once I moved to 4k the problem will only get worse.  For me I didn't even consider under 16GB for the latest card.  "Next Gen" is developed with 16GB consoles in mind.  Though this is shared what happens if they design a game with 14GB/2GB (CPU) in mind and poorly optimize it for a PC port?  For those two options definately the 3090.
