    Because:
1- We have them where I used to work at IT, and the cover all broke
2- Pain in the ass to remove
     3- big and bulky
4- Requires screws to mount on the screen
5- Limited number of cables you can pass (2 max + USB).
6- If you need more wiring to turn the monitor from landscape to portrait mode or height adjust, then you'll have either too much cable floating around or pulling on the wires

At work, all these stands are broken in some fashion. We even have ones where it doesn't hold the monitor for height adjustable so they are stuck at the lowest setting.

The best design is with Dell Ultrasharp series monitor stand. Clip system to install the stand. No screws, and holds super well, with it's mechanical system and easy to press button to remove it. Has a hole to pass cable which is invisible once the monitor setup, and you see no cables on any height or position. In addition, you have no wires being too short problem or too long. Oh and the whole stand is heavy, yet fairly compact the one from Lenovo, and uses metal mechanical system for every aspect of it.

And as a bonus, Dell monitors are actually really good, while Lenovo will turn the most high IPS monitor, and make it look like a 80$ 1st gen TN LCD pane, with back light bleeding everywhere.
When low-end Acer does a better job, ouch! And Dell monitors aren't overpriced, not to mention warranty coverage being superior.

So with Dell, not only you get the best stand, but a better monitor as bonus.

Clean off the heatsink and get some new thermal paste to use.

Or you could just put some tooth paste on it.
DO NOT DO THIS ^ IT IS VERY BAD!

Man you are probably better off getting a better graphics card. The Phenom II is a very deceant CPU for gaming and CPU has a much lesser effect on the game performance then the GPU.

    For gaming: Fast 4-core
For low-threaded tasks in general: Fast 4-core

The only thing the slow 8 core really excels (if it does at all) is rendering and that's only if the raw power of the 8 slow cores combined is higher than that of the fast 4-core

    Don't be a fanboy.

      Now, to answer the question, you really have to look at the applications you're using;
Solid Works Homework Gaming Solid Works isn't highly optimized for multi-core processing from what I read, neither is gaming really, you'll benifit more on this front from the intel processor. As for homework, its more of a mutli-threaded task, BUT its not inensive at all and you won't need the extra threads to open office applications with a calcualtor, notepad, etc.

My advice is to go with the i5 as you'll get more out of it than say the FX 8350.

Intel all the way! Even locked i5 is far better than 8core AMD cpu, thx to new architecture. Those 8core AMD cpus are near to i3, but still fail in some games comparing to i3.

i5 so you have the option to upgrade to an i7 further on down line if u need to also the current i5s have better performance per core compare to the 8 core FX cpus
