jk441 reacted to RONOTHAN## in Does anyone know what happened with AMD's "Hardware-Auto-Detect" Driver update system?
In my experience their auto detect feature never worked (same with Nvidia's, though Nvidia's at least worked once), so I wouldn't exactly call it much of a loss for it to be gone if it is. Just use the 5900HX driver, with most devices the driver is actually shared between same generation devices, so you're likely going to be downloading the same package no matter what.

jk441 got a reaction from BiotechBen in EDIT: Please ignore. -Help needed with PC not booting-
Mobo: ROG STRIX B450-I GAMING
CPU: Ryzen 2700x
RAM: HyperX Fury 16GB 3000MHz DDR4
GPU: 6700x Sapphire Pulse.
I'm currently getting a beep code of no RAM (from the looks of the manual) once, and then I do see the RAM light up but no POST.
What's more perplexing is the system was running fine. I did unplugg/replug everything because I was rearranging my desk but before that everything was working... And I'm just so confused what in the world is going on.
I tried reseating all my components, and did a CMOS clear but no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Edit: Sorry, I tried to seat 1 RAMs at a time to see what happens, and it seems like 1 of the RAM sticks died, as it can boot with 1 specific RAM. Sorry for posting before checking that

jk441 reacted to Skiiwee29 in Has anyone used a USB 3.0 switch before?
Since its use case is for KBM sharing, you don't need a USB 3 switch, a USB 2 will be just fine. This is the one I personally use for my gaming PC and work laptop when not using my Synergy KVM software solution.

For the record, this did actually cause many people to hold onto their phones for another year, that is exactly what happened with me and my iPhone 6s Plus.
iPhones are supported for years and they last, why spend another $750-$1100 when you could spend $30 and keep the current phone you have running like new? (something that iOS 12 enabled)

Not too sure if this is already posted in the forums, but I did some searches and wasn't able to find this topic being posted; sorry if it's a re-post in advance.
tldr; of the letter is Tim Cook issuing an open statement to their investors that they've now revised their earnings for 2019 that they'll get less of that $$$ and blames the following:
1. iPhone sales are not that great (obviously)
edit: BATTERY REPLACEMENT PROGRAM (What...?! really?! yes really.... that's an excuse) - this is a part of the iPhone sales not a separate topic
2. They're not getting as much value from the China market as they expected
3. New products constraining sales in previous existing products.
4. US Dollar value
5. Some countries may, and are, struggling economically.
Also mentioning that investors shouldn't worry to much but still keep on investing.
Some of their observations are pretty hilarious others more in a "meh" imo.
What are your thoughts on Tim Cook's letter?

jk441 reacted to TheWiseGuy in how bad is it to "dual" RAM in slots 1,2?
Check the motherboard manual. Some MOBO's have dual channel support in slots 1-2, and 3-4.
-
jk441 reacted to mariushm in how bad is it to "dual" RAM in slots 1,2?
Absolutely nothing bad will happen, but you'll simply not run the memory in dual channel mode, so you will experience a slight decrease in performance in applications that use the RAM memory a lot.

jk441 reacted to .Apex. in Any disadvantages of putting a Ryzen 1st Gen on a B450 Mobo?
well you get a much nicer board with B450, so i always recommend 2nd gen motherboards even when paired with 1st gen CPU's.
when Ryzen first came out, motherboard manufacturers were skeptical, so they cheaped out on the boards, but now that Ryzen is a success they increased the quality alot even for the same price.
no advantages or disadvantages with OC and performance though.

jk441 reacted to Crunchy Dragon in Could Nvidia/AMD potentially lockdown their "sync" techs?
Anything higher than a 1060 should be able to push 144Hz. As far as 1440p, you'll want at least a 1080 for 1440p144.
G-Sync would be a worthwhile investment at that refresh rate, just to help keep things stable. FreeSync won't work unless you have a Ryzen APU.
-
jk441 reacted to bleedblue in Could Nvidia/AMD potentially lockdown their "sync" techs?
"lock"? gsync is already proprietary. Freesync is open source.

If they stopped forcing the "We want everything to be as thin as possible" design it probably would've been possible. Didn't the 2015 models have m.2 ssds? I wish Apple were more flexible on their design methodology specially for the Pro line up

jk441 got a reaction from TheRandomness in LTX 2017 - What is Linus angry at?
he did "script" it so he explains what he's mad about the intel and x299 situation, but only so it's not some random person mumbling without a constructed explanation (you can see him checking his phone for this pointers). And in general I totes understand what he's mad at, and agree with most of his points. It is really confusing for the consumers now and I'm just thinking about jumping to AMD cuz of this mess

jk441 got a reaction from ClobberXD in GTX 900 series soon to be "Legacy" GPUs?!
So...
Just saw this around twitter and not sure if the news is around the forum...
Apparently the GTX900 is soon to be named "Legacy" graphics cards, and these where released around 2014 weren't they?
I personally think this is Nvidia just trying to A--H---s and playing the monopoly game to in a way "force" ppl into getting a 1000 card if they want the latest driver support.
Too early for the 900 series to drop off, or the right time for them to be dropped off?
