Frankly, I don't have this issue because I'm 3 years older than the other people in my class. This meaning that you should pay attention or you'll also be 3 years older than the other people in your class.

My school has an extremely strict no-phone policy but it seems like I can avoid getting caught even with my Note 4 (5.7" phablet)...

They take our phones and hide them in the office, then expect a responsible adult to come in their own time with the student to retrieve the device.

I could probably argue my way out of having my phone stolen by the school because when I am using it in lessons I am setting up tethering with my Chromebook because I use it for lessons (because I have unreadable handwriting and have suffered cases of RSI from it in the past), and I don't trust Google's offline mode with Drive.

My handwriting has always been terrible and there was one period of time when I seriously focused on trying to have neat handwriting. I ended up with severe cramping whenever I tried to write anything longer than a few sentences for several months and my handwriting just went further downhill from there.

Try to get a teacher to recognize that I'm using my phone during lesson, which according to the rules demands the immediate response of removal of the device from me?

I might get a really cheap used old iPhone and pose to use it for a while and get that taken from me, then tell it to wipe everything on it remotely and see how long I can make the school hold it.

In my school that definitely wouldn't work.

Then they should ask to bring your parents to recover the phone, then just do that. Make a sad face, say sorry couple times and problem solved.

Handwriting.

wow. I get RSI from writing REALLY long essays in exams. There's a person in my class who gets to type everything (lucky shit). It's apparently because he's dyslexic, even though I know another person who's dyslexic but does tests fine :/
