Posted October 6, 2015 so i am helping my sister build her first PC, and she wants to be able to play around with overclocking the CPU so we have decided on the I5-4690k... we are trying to keep the price down where we can though... so basically my question is, 'is it safe to have a mild overclock on this CPU with air cooling or should she get one of those Corsair self contained CPU water cooling things like the H50 - H80 - H100...?' personally i have ran water cooling on all of my rigs since my 1st build so i dont really know what air cooling can handle... Posted October 6, 2015 You'd want the h100i, and you could probably get a decent oc on a 4690k. It's luck of the draw for overclocking. Posted October 6, 2015 hyper 212 evo can handle most moderate overclocks and is only 30 bucks ~dm
Posted October 6, 2015 sure its fine, as long as you dont increase the voltage to something ridiculous nothing bads gonna happen. For a moderate amount of money a single tower 120mm fan heatsink like the hyper 212 is gonna let you get most of what you can out of the cpu. The difference to a 240mm aio is 200mhz for quite a bit of voltage in general.
Posted October 7, 2015 I would go air cooling lower cost and plus only point of failure (The Fans) which can be easily replaced. Magical Pineapples
