Nvida GeForce GTX 990M GPU may be based on the desktop GTX 980 Coming this September

ahhming

Hasee, a big chinese notebook manufacturer, had a conference in china few days ago and revealed that GTX 990M is coming in Q4 (September - December). Probably close to September to not put it too close to Pascal (June 2016 ish).

And the biggest news is that GTX 990M will be just about as powerful as GTX 980M SLI.

Notebookcheck now has information from independent industry insiders who all say that the chip will have the codename "N16E-GXX" and will be based on the Maxwell GM204 architecture -- Just like the current GTX 980. The TDP for the chip is supposed to be variable between 100 up to 185+ Watts, so notebook manufacturers can design their respective cooling systems accordingly for a target performance level.

Another interesting detail is that the chip will obviously not be available as a MXM solution, but will instead be soldered directly onto the motherboard. This should be due to the high power consumption and custom cooling solutions.

Update*

The GeForce GTX 990M is already available for pre-order for €1,755.25 from CEG-Hardcorecustom. With this high-end GPU, and unlocked Intel Core i7 CPUs, notebook market will have some very powerful products.

Probably not.

the x90 is usually reserved for dual GPUs, they'd be more likely to release a 985m, or 1080m

That's some insane power for a laptop, based on how much vRAM mobile GPU's normally have it'll probably be a 16GB card for no particular reason.

Do Hasee laptops bounce?

You do realize that there's no such thing as a dual GPU card for a laptop, right?

Yes, i am aware. I'm saying that 990m isn't going to be the name, not that it's going to be a dual GPU card

how your 980 will go down the lineup, a laptop gpu that is based on a desktop 980 will never be as good as the desktop version.

The naming scheme could just be very different for mobile, could it not?

There's a first time for everything. Previous x85M cards were only slightly faster.

If it does come to the mobile with the 990 branding, even with the mobile branding, we should expect the performance pretty much on par with the 980 when considering the power delivered by the M series of the current Gen.

Thats my opinion

So, you're upset because a mobile GPU which can only fit in ridiculously thick, heavy, and expensive laptops might perform close to your GPU.

This forum is fucking satire. I need a break from this shit.

There is... nvidia just failed on the naming and called it the 980ti. Even tho nvidia understands now dual gpu cards are a waste of everyones times and money.

I have a 780Ti and I'm happy with it. Big upgrade from what I had previously at the very least
